Subject: Vacuum Leak? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1995 Dodge Dakota with a 5.2L engine. I recently bought a 52mm Holley Throttle Bodie for it and when I installed it the idle went over 4000 RPM's. I contacted Holley and they said that I had a vacuum leak. How do I fix that? Do I replace the IAC (Idle Air Control)? The thing that gets me is that the stock throttle bodie still works fine. Thanks for your help.

Message: The vacuum leak usually comes form the interface of the TB to the manifold. Try using some carb cleaner, start the engine, if you can, and spray the areas it could be leaking. When you hit the leak, the idle spedd will change dramatically, and you've found the leak! An old shade tree mechanic trick.
Why would you replace the IAC? Does it work fine with the stock TB?
Good luck

Message: Thanks a lot Texas, the only reason I thought that it was the IAC was because when it first happened, I called up PepBoys and that's what they said. Last time I listen to them. Thanks again.

Message: Jarod,
try the method I suggested. I'm not saying it's not the IAC, but probably not.

Message: IT WORKED!! Thanks a lot Texas Todd. All I had to do was put a high temperature sealant in between the gasket and the throttle bodie and it worked! I've been trying to get that thing to work for a month. Thanks again Texas.
