Message: I have a 2002 Dakota with fron disk rear drum..and does anyone have the same truck. And does anyone have problems with their brakes..like i only have 20,000 on my truck and the brakes are already messed i think! When i brake..i feel them in the pedal. And anyone have the same problem that all dakotas i think have. U really have to press down on the brake pedal for braking? Just wondering....

Message: i've got the same truck man with the same amount of miles, and i too had brake problems, i was thinking it might be the front pads so i took my wheels off and looked at the pads still PLENTY of life left in them, put the wheels back on and HAND torqued them to 100lbs, now my brakes are exactly like new

Message: If you have to step on your pedal hard you may need to bleed them. I had a similar deal with my 99 and it was bad enough that I could feel it but not so bad that they needed to be done. At 60,000, I needed new rotors and pads. The inside pads were worn to nothing and I never even noticed. Pull you wheels and check. If you need take your rotors off and have the roundness checked. It's worth a couple hours of your time to not need new rotors and pads at $235.00 parts only.

Message: You should look at other postings around this message board. The brakes on the trucks are poor. Or at least the front rotors.
I've purchased a used 2K Dak, I've put 15K miles on it, and I'm about to take my truck in to have the rotors machined for the 2nd time. That's too soon. The rotors warp easily. I personally get different brakes everytime I press them down. Some times it takes a lot to press them in, some times if I just touch them I squeek a tire, and the ABS kicks in. Not very safe.
I'm personally saving up to purchase a new kit. SSBC I believe is the company.

Message: Dan,
In your 20K, have you adjusted your REAR brakes? Manually or automatically? It takes pressure off your front brakes. Automatically by reversing fast several times in a row and slamming on the brakes, till it skids to a stop. This adjusts the rears.
The front brakes, read all this article:
http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/warped_rotors_myth.htm
OR, do like most, NEVER adjust your rear brakes, and repair rotors and pads when it's not even necessary!
Hope this helps!

Message: I suppose that is why mpoar put self-adjusters in thier rear drums way back in the early 60's all you have to do is back up at around 20 mph and hit the brakes rather hard and the things self adjust. sota like TTodd just said in his 4th sentence.
