You cannot rent one since it can only be used on one vehicle at a time. Once a VIN number is read off a trucks computer and programmed, it must be returned to stock before it can program another truck with a different VIN number. So, the only way to use the Hypertech and keep your settings is to buy one. Now, if you were to find someone that would lend it to you to try, it may work, but remember u must return it to stock when u give the programmer back. Also, there is no guarantee that if it works for a 98 R/T, it will work for yours since there are several different computer configurations that chrysler uses in the daks (according to Hypertech technical staff).

I was in this same situation thinking that I didn't want to spend 300 bones to use it once, but I caved and spent the money. I have a 99 5.2 4x4 and let me tell you, it is worth the money in my opinion, at 3/4 to full throttle, the truck pulls a lot harder. It is only tuned for the 87 octance too since gas prices are so high, but I can't wait to program it for 93 octance. Last, it did a great job of adjusting the computer for my larger tires.

Hope this helps.

Why not just get the Mopar PCM? They are around $300 and you get to keep your stock PCM to have as a spare or sell to recoupe some of your money.

Check with John at southeastrt.com for a Mopar PCM. He has good prices too.
