Message: OK guys, I have been watching the boards and still have some questions regarding rotors and pads. I know I wantt o go with cross drilled and slotted rotors, but I am still up in the air on which brand is best and most reliable. Who has experience with a few brands and what are your opinions. Also, what about pads, are ceramic the way to go or carbon composite material? I drive with a heavy foot and go through pads like crazy, so I need a rotor/pad set-up that will hold up to some serious driving. Oh by the way, they are going on a 2000 X-Cab 4WD w/ the 4.7L. Opinions welcome here, so please post!

Message: don't get drilled... they will crack in a year and be trash... I have the slotted Stainless Steel Brake Co. rotors all around with their pads... very nice... never warped, checked them with a micrometer and their with in .001 after 10k... no pedal feedback at all... kinda $$$ but the best I have found... Power Slot are crap... warped them in a month... they tear up pads at an alarming rate... better off spending the $$$ the first time and doing it right.

Message: Get a boat anchor. Tie a rope to your bumper and to the anchor. Throw the anchor out when you need to stop.
It worked for me, and best of all it was cheap.

Message: I agree on the no drilled rotors. From everything
I've heard about them in both street and racing applications, your basic "mass produced" drilled rotors can be prone to cracking.
I have powerslots with Hawk Brake pads . . . they are HUGELY better than stock, have never warped, and have not shown any appreciable wear to the pads or rotors. I now have 20,000 miles on them.
I drive my truck just like I drive my bike: Redline in every gear ALWAYS (meaning that I am not gentle on the brakes in any way) . . .

Message: you guys have made me nervous :)
anyway, i replaced my brakes about a month ago, replaced the stockers with slotted/x drilled rotors from jcwhitney.com. got ceramic pads too. stay away from the ceramic pads, they fade like a bastard, and they put soooo much brake dust on my wheels its disgusting. im going to switch them out for better pads in a few days. im a big fan of the x drilled, but if these experienced guys say not to use them, maybe you should give it serious consideration. i needed rotors BADLY, the slotted/x drilled were priced right, so even if they fail in a year, i wont be upset. good luck

Message: pull your wheel and take a look around the holes.. you will start to notice small cracks all around them... VERY BAD.... if you want to spend the $$$ for some Baer or Brembo drilled rotors go ahead... I wouldn't worry about them as they are designed to have the holes... they actually drill in a specific patern and locations to prevent cracking them... watch out for the brembo rotors that were drilled by someone else.. it voids warranty and there is a good chance they will crack... good luck... watch on those power slots, I had cracks showing up on them too, vertically all around the rotor...
