Subject: 2.5 liter questions IP: Logged
Message: I just found this site. Its very helpful. I have a 96 dakota with a 2.5. The engine is completely stock. Im going to get the airaid intake and an exhaust. What is a good exhaust? Not real loud but a good sound. I see a lot of people have flowmaster. Im just getting bored as hell with this motor. I need more power. I wish I could put a 318 in it but that seems like too much trouble. Is it? Thanks, Anthony

Message: Hey oh please. This is a performance board whether you are playing with 4 cylinders or 8. On making a v8 swap would require a lot of work. front suspension, k member and complete wiring change.

Message: Well, i guess i will just have to keep the 2.5 until I can afford a new truck. Do the exhaust and intake really make a noticeable difference? Thanks, Anthony

Message: it may help it sound a little meaner, but there isnt a whole lot you can do performance-wise, but ive heard flowmaster 40 seriees on some 4-bangers and its sounds pretty nice

Message: I can't remember, does the 96 have the chrysler or the jeep 2.5L? If it's the jeep then they have a roller rocker set that should help out a bit. If it's a chrysler, mopar has some cams for the 2.5l. Check out turbocity.com for 2.5l jeep engine ideas.

Message: I have a 98 2.5, found a buyer, and am selling it as fast as possible. I don't even know what I'm going to do after I sell my truck... but who cares... if I can get rid of that truck... I'll do anything. I say put a "For Sale" sign in it yesterday and sell that b*tch. If you are forced to keep it (you're upside down) drop a K&N air filter ($58) in it and ride it out until you aren't "upside down" then put the "For Sale" sign in it. That was Dodge's biggest mistake, putting the I4 in the Dakota's. My two cents.
Paul
ps-I want to stab myself,... thats how slow the I4 is...don't put ANY money into it,...only ($58)

Message: Have to agree with dakx01. Why they felt they could put a 120 hp I4 in a 2 ton truck is beyond me. I think they did it for CAFE reasons. Hell the V6 has its hands full with the dakota!
Just giving Anthony suggestions. Trading up to a V8 would be the best option by far. I think you would be very lucky to get to a stock V6 hp throwing everything available at the I4. The roll pan and rims are probably the best money spent on that truck.
