does anyone know , or know where i can find , the specs on a stock manual 5spd tranny in a 98 reg cab dak sport . its a 2.5 l. what kind is it ? and how much power is it able to with stand ? any pros and cons of it . is it know for anythign or to have problems???? thanks

more than likely the trans in your truck is an
AX-5 or an AX-15. not to good on handling power of any sort. pretty easy to break if your gettin stupid with it. you can shift em pretty hard but if you miss a gear dont try to jam it in all the way. easiest way to jack it up. i see this all the time at my dealer here in arlington texas.

what about other dakotas such as the 3.9l , the 5.2l , and the 5.9l? i guess basically whats the next step up for a stronger tranny without neccessarily breaking the bank??? thanks again

i know the NV3550 is what comes behind the 4.0L in the Wrangler Jeeps. i dont know if the bellhousing is the same or not and i dont remember if you can get it in a 2 wheel drive version. but that would be a good start to do some research for a stronger trans. i can find out tomorrow when i get to work. i have an AX-5, AX-15, and an NV3550 sitting on my trans bench. ill have to look at the bellhousings and the input shafts to see the similarities for ya.
