Subject: Should I buy this turbo? IP: Logged
Message: I found a turbo at a pull-a-part junkyard off an older Daytona that has 77k miles on it. It can be mine for $25. Should I get it? I believe it's a Garret T2? Would this complete turbo be worth my $25?

Message: I don't imagine a turbo off that small of an engine will work well with your 5.9. I don't kno the specs on that turbo but my guess is that it would make little boost on such an air hungry engine compared to the little Daytona.

Message: That's exactly what I was thinking Ryan! But fabricating and tuning it will be a pain, and not worth the 1 psi I imagine. I kind of just want to buy it and find something to put it on. Maybe my CBR?

Message: True, True, but I was thinking more along the line of the "fun factor" you, or me anyways, would be having in putting it together and setting it up to fit your truck. The tuning might be tuff your right, but I would give it a shot if I had nothing better to do :)

Message: I'd get it! You can have someone change the turbines to get a different ar ratio. The super 60 setup from Mopar gets 300 hp out of a little 2.2L. Uses the stock housing with different turbines. Should be able to supply a few psi anyways for your 5.9L.

Message: No, no no ... do some research on turbos first! If the turbo is too small, its too small and you wont do anything but burn it up .. you wont simply get 1 psi .. you'll get 15psi at 1000RPM and a fried turbo by 3000RPM (unless you get a programmable boost controller that ramps boost down with RPM, but you'd need a damn big wastegate that'll cost you $500ish).
You _might_ be able to get away with two of those little turbos in a twin setup .. but it's probably still too small, and you wont have any top end boost.
... but for $25, you can't really go wrong. You'd likely have to rebuild the turbo though ... check the housing for cracks .. its useless with cracks and you'd be better off getting a new one than a used one with cracks.

Message: Well, I am going to go pull it today. It won't be going on my truck, and could you imagine the tuning nightmare it would be to put on my CBR. 4 carbs, not to mention the space restriction! Anyway, I will clean it up and probably end up just looking at it...

Message: Well, I got it sitting in front of me right now. I can't believe these things are so expensive. Really looks like a simple setup. The manifold/exhaust inlet is a bit rusty, but overall it's in really good shape. No shaft play at all. I'm sure it will work if I find something to put it on. Might be time to buy a used 4 wheeler!

Message: The T2 would barely be adequate for 1/2 of a 5.9.
And if you plan on turboing your CBR, welcome to rocket science. Blowing through carburators is one of the hardest thing to do on a motorcycle.
WOuldnt matter anyway, the new 6RR from Kawi would push you off into the weeds on motor only...lol.
Save your money and make up a kit thats nice. Dont try to skate around by using cheap sh** components, like 17yr old turbos. Get some nice new Garrett GT series unit(s).
