maybe you guys can help me here

my brother has a 2000 grand cherokee with the 4.0 V6 in it. his "low coolant" on the overhead keeps coming on. so he fills it, and a few days maybe a week later, it does it again. he keep having to add coolant.

he took it to the dealership to be looked at, and they say its perfectly fine. but its still loosing coolant. there are no leaks in the driveway and his oil is clean.

where can it be going?????????

Check the oil. It is just oil or milky(coolant getting in), or is it coming out the exhaust? (more white smoke than normal) Only way is to do a proper cooling system pressure test. It is also possible that if it's minor, it may leak out thru the rad fins and evaporating. Do you smell it anywhere???

Im not sure if jeep waterpumps have this but look underneath the waterpump and see if you can see traces of coolant. Most pumps have whats called a weep home. i had a camaro that was doing that and it drove me nuts trying to find it cause it only leaked when i was driving it

your brother's 4.0 is an inline 6 242c.i. anyway, ive owned 2 and ive had similar problems with both, have him check/replace thermostat, and do a complete drain and fill of the cooling system. while its empty, remove the water pump and re-gasket it. that should cure the problem, unless youve got leaky lines/radiator..also you might as well replace the radiator hoses too.

My 2004 Rubicon 4.0 is very nosiy while accelerating. I've been told it is the valve train and the engine checks out per the computer read-outs. This is the third 4.0 Jeep that I have owned (prevoius two were in Cherokees) and it is the loudest. Is this noise normal? Is there anything that can be done to quiet the motor down?

I have a 2004 Wrangler Willys with a 4.0 and it is way more noisy than my sister's 2000 Cherokee. It has to do with it being a Wrangler. No sound insulation and harder motor mounts.

pull the oil filler cap and look inside the valve cover. when you look straight down, look for a hairline crack next to the rocker pedastal. i have seen several of these on 4.0 jeeps. oh by the way, im a Gold Certified DC Tech if you were wondering.
