Message: I own a 2000 Dak, 4.7, auto. In the past month I have made some very worthwhile mods I would like to briefly share with those who might be interested.
Replaced the 3.55 open diferrential with 4.10's and a new TracLok LSD. The 4.10's are probably the best performance improvement you can make for the money to your 4.7, 3.55 truck.
Added a set of Supersprings to the rear spring pack. This did a few things - 1st, it raised the rear of the truck by 1 1/2". It reduced rear sway/body roll. It added load capacity for towing, etc. And, Supersprings mount in such a way that you don't give up ride quality to acheive the benifits listed. IMHO, a better choice by far over adding a leaf.
Removed the rear 5/8" sway bar and replaced it with a 7/8" ADDCO unit with polyurethane bushings. The truck goes around corners like it is on rails. Very little body lean. Plus, the larger bar corrects much of the trucks natural understeer.
Threw away the factory shocks and installed Bilsteins at all four corners. What can I say. They are Bilsteins - they work!!!
Installed Fabtech 2" leveling springs in front - on my 4.7 V8 the lift is more like 1 1/2". Works great - nice comfortable ride. Blends beatifully with the Bilsteins. Slight lift gives the truck a slightly more aggressive stance/appearance without going "over the top".
Well, that's it. Hope some of you find this info of some benifit.
BTW - with only about 1 1/2" of lift at each end, the stock length shocks work just fine.

Message: MD,
4.10 gears will be available for 4x4's soon. I was curriouse; how much did you pay to have your gears put in? did you do the job yourself?
I am assuming your truck is a 4x2.
on your mods, I added some Hotchis sway bars front and back and replaced the stock shocks with Rancho 9000's (adjustable) all I can say is WOW!
it does not drive like the same truck.
If there was one thing to do to the Dodge Dakota to improve handling and ride quality it is the shocks.
You don't have to spend a forture you can get the Rancho 5000's for less than $200 and put them on in an afternoon.
Good list of mods MD.

Message: Install was just under $275, Jaggy. I paid $235 shipped for the Bilsteins - easy install, as you note. One of the ways auto manufacturers shave production costs on their cars is to hang cheap shocks and certain other inconspicuous parts on them.
Best wishes,
MD
