Subject: Tire Smokers? IP: Logged
Message: So with all these posts about running the 1/4 mile etc and those wonderful GSA tires that come stock....
How much rubber from a standstill does a stock R/T put down? 1 foot? 3 feet? 9 feet? on the street that is.
This is without brake torquing etc ....
Just simplying nailing the throttle from a standstill.
Also any real difference between a RC and a CC?
Inquiring minds want to know... :)

Message: I got a 4.7+5 speed, and for me the goal is to stop doing that. I've moved upto 285/60R16s and plan on putting 295/65R16s on the rears next time I change them. The traction bars also help out a bit, as does the 100-150Lb rubber mats that I used as a bed liner (they work great). Still get alot of 2nd gear scratch though.

Message: Depends on the condition of the tires (nearly bald RSAs seem to grip better than the newer ones).
Also depends on the road conditions (a parking lot, smooth as glass vs. a coarse gravel based road will give different results).
Best I can tell ya-- a stock CC Dakota on my street lays down a about 50' of wheel spin, hooks up and then weazes out from there.
My RC prior to the heads and cam would do maybe 10-15' of wheel spin, hooks up, then rolls on and once it hit 3500 rpm breaks them loose to the point I had to let up for fear of snapping a 180.
Now with the heads/cam--- mash the throttle from a dead stop the tires break loose, spin all through 1st-- into 2nd (which out pausing) and will run up about 3/4 in 2nd before it hooks up-- (I have only done a few of these, as the truck will get squirrely and try to snap a 180)-- I dunno, maybe 100-150'???
With N20 I can spin them at anything below 45 mph....

Message: I'm with Demon on this one. The less spin
the better. That way when some dumb a$$ in his
piece of shcrap 80's compact comes up next to you at the light(in the turn only lane)and wants
to out run you to the next light you don't have to use .50 worth of good rubber to shut him down.

Message: Well-- I don't condone street racing-- let the little punk the import blar away on the fart pipe-- I can keep up easily just by rolling into it.
Though leaving the local 1/8 mi I drove home on my MT ETs DOTs--- 1/2 bottle in the bed-- and came upon a street light near where I live (zero traffic, red light and a MR2 turbo from the track pulled along side me)... He rev'd away... Green light I did a quick blast to about 80 mph (in a 60 zone, up hill, 3 lane road, no traffic).
Nothing like 1.8 seconds to clear the intersection! (60') ZERO wheel spin. Left just a tad of markings on the road.
Still, the track is more fun.
