Well we got alot of snow here in MD and I think my rims and ram air hood are damaged by it. The rims have pit marks(small bumps) on them and it looks as if the chrome is peeling off in other parts, the hood has a small paint chip down to the fiberglass! Question is: is this from the snow, salt etc? what can i do to prevent this,i use the best waxes and polishers help me.

Yes that is the salt eating your rims. worse even, after some time, the bead will begin to leak on your tyres and youll be forced to have them refinished. That is why many of us have a full set of snows on steel rims for the winter.

Are yours factory chrome R/T or aftermarket? I don't have the straight story on chrome. If they are aftermarket such as from AAArims.com, they do not recommend chrome (their's) be used in salt conditions and pits may occur else damage may occur to the finish. They do not warranty against this. I have seen the same on other chrome wheel sites. My question is what is different with factory OEM wheels. There are a lot of stock chrome wheels on vehicles now. OEMs are not going to put on factory chrome rims if they are going to pit up. With that said I have AAArims R/T chrome wheels. I am just north of you in NJ. I did not know about chrome and salt issue when I bought them. This is the third winter they have seen. Yes I do have some pits between the spokes on the outer rim from salt. No peeling. This winter has been the worst for salt as you know. Looks like I'll get to clean things up this weekend for the first time in a long time. I'll see how bad they look. One thing that may help is to start waxing them when you wash the car. That's what I did all last year so when winter came, hopefully I have a good coat to protect them in the white stuff.

polish the rims all over with an industrial buffing compound, called tripoli that Sears used to carry in the tool dept. if sears does not carry a coumpound anymore, try looking in the phone book under "industrial supply" and calling the companies listed. If still no go try J&L Industrial Supply, www.jlindustrial.com as I know they do carry it. I also bought a buffing wheel designed to fit my power drill. worked out really well, just don't press down hard or hold the buffing wheel in one place for more then a second or you could ruin the rims buy cutting gouges in them. Then spray several coats of clear coat on them to seal out the salt that is causing aluminum corrosion. this works good in the bead seat also.I had a 79 Cobra Turbo Stang that had aluminum rims for 9 years in the rust belt and am speaking from actual experience.

I would just send the rims back for re-chroming. if its free, u might as well do it. AND, i just found a chip the size of my damn finger nail on my hood next the the Dodge emblem. yeah, u will find a new chip/scratch everytime u wash it.

and last, i would spend around 150-200$ on some sh*tty rims/tires to have on for the winter to keep the chrome ones looking brand new.
