Well I have driven the new HEMI 1500 qc today and I am very impressed. The main reasons for the test drive were: curious and is every freakin Dodge Ram on the road going to kick my r/t's ass now!Well I am pleased to say that I don't think so,the truck is awesome but is heavy and is'nt much in the handling department.Yes it has 95 more horse but weights 1250 lbs heavier. If I had to guess the 1/4 mile is 1-1.25 sec slower and the 0-60 at around 1 sec slower. But please don't get me wrong it is SWEET!!Just not as rare as the r/t and I like toys not everyone and there dog has.

I have been plesently surprised by my new Hemi Ram. I traded in the 2000 RC R/T and got a 2wd 1500 Quad Hemi Ram. The Ram weighs about 1000 pounds more in my case but I think the performance is similar. Keep in mind the truck you test drove was full of 87 octain fuel which will cause the computer to back off on power. Also all Daoge motos get much better after a few thousand miles. All that said I lined up a srtech of road and ran the R/T and the Ram over the same stretch of road. The R/T covered the distance 0-82 mph and the Ram ran the same. I don't know if the time to distance was the same but they both were going 82 MPH at the end. This was with about 15 miles on the Ram and a full tank of 87 octian gas. I really don't think it will be able to equal the Dakota stock with it's extra 1000 pounds but no way there is a full second difference. Put the Hemi in a low optioned RC Ram and I think you will see stock trucks running mid 14's. Some people have already got high 14's on new motors with lots of options. The Ram is not very expensive either. After rebates and dealing, the Ram (which stickered at $31,360) was about $25,500. About the best deal you can find a new R/T for is $19,000 and that's comparing a RC R/T to a QC Ram. Both are very cool trucks, and I loved my R/T. I just needed more room and wanted more towing ability.

Hey Hersbird, I didn't know you got a new Ram. I've been away from this board for a while. I guess that was one way to get rid of the R/T. You just know they are going to sell it for a grip now.

How does it do in the snow so far?

I did get that 1990 RX-7 non-turbo GXL in Seattle. I've been working on getting it ready for this race reason in another two months.

I've posted off and on a little here. I just got the Ram on Friday so I haven't even had it a week. It has the 20's and they do surprisingly well considering this is the worst snow in probably 2 years. The tires are brand new (of course) and I did throw all 450 pounds of sand bags I have right up against the tailgate (actually they started over the axle and the Hemi immediatley moved them back!) The sad news on the Dakota was how little I got for it. Ended up being a mere $10,000. I would have dealed with the people here looking for R/T's but I never even had a bite. I had actually wrecked my R/T the day before it went into the 'autofinder' and it was in the body shop all week! I think that turned off the few calls I got, but the repair was perfect, and the damage only minor sheetmetal. The RX7 should be fun at the autocross. I've actually been thinking about giving the Ram a try. I don't know if it will physically fit between some of the cones though! One thing about the Ram is that the brakes are much improved over the R/T. I always figured brakes were brakes but not anymore.

Hi Hersbird how are you liking your new Hemi? I have 2000 mi on mine already but we have had snow storm after snow storm and I have only tested the 4-wheel drive. Which works great. I have a rough self timed 0-60 of 7.5 secs which I am really impressed with.I am really noticing the hemi get more aggressive as the mileage climbs my 4.7 was the same way.I would think my 4x4 reg cab and your 2wd quad should weigh close to the same so we may end up with similar performance.

It's awesome but I am only about 1/2 way through that first tank of the crappy 87 octain. I also have the 450 pounds of sand in the back and the weather is just been crappy for March. I can't wait until summer and I can really see what it runs like. This idling along with traffic is killing me. I did have a older 4x4 Cummins half ass race me. It was even wet out and we were side by side at a light. He starts manually racing through the gears making all kinds of noise. I just felt like I was accelerating normally not even 1/2 throttle and staying right beside him. It seems like he shifted about 3 times before I even left first gear! The kickdown form 2nd to 1st is awesome on the Hemi as well. The R/T would kick down hard but you had to be going under about 30 MPH or it would just stay in 2nd. The Ram seems to kick down and hit 1st hard on anything under 40 MPH, pretty much anytime you are driving around town and floor it you end up back in 1st and pulling hard. I still don't know if it's as quick as my R/T was, but it's impressive considering how much bigger it is.

I want to get a few of the mods that are out there but think I'll save up some and let other be the testers. They have some cold air kits, lots of cat back kits, Hughes already has an aftermarket cam and adjustible pushrods, and Hotchkis has a drop and sway bar kit. I'd like to see somebody adress the drive by wire programming to insure that it's not acting like a big brother preventing maximum power application. Personally I don't feel it, but I'd like to know for sure I'm not being overly "governed" by some computer!

Yes this drive by wire deal has me wondering to.But so far I have not noticed anything concrete that I can give a positive answer on.You know when you get an idea in your head and look hard enough you will usually find something real or imagined.I agree about 1st gear what a screamer!I find the same thing in every gear this trans is not afraid to downshift, if you go hard to the floor.
