Subject: K/N FIPK installed NICE ! IP: Logged
Message: I finally invested the big money in a FIPK for my R/T and I see why everyone has one. I cant see a performance increase at all but who could notice 5 hp, but the intake sound is like music when you rev from idle. Its also a very nice lookin' set up. I doubt very seriously its worth $250, but I got mine second hand and its only a year old. If you dont have one of these, go get one tomorrow.
2002 rc R/T: 180t, MOPAR wires, BorgWarner cap, Autolite 3923's, Harland Sharp 1.7 RR's, K&N FIPK, self ported 50mm TB, Gibson exhaust, totally useless B&G pcm flash

Message: Yes the FIPk is a nice piece. Hey Tex, how do you like you HS RR's? Are the non-adjustable? What kind of performance gain did you notice? I think I will buy a set in the near future.

Message: 360R/T: I really like the HS 1.7's, they are the non-adjustable which John Mercedes at Southeast R/T had a hand in designing specifically for our trucks. The install is super easy, no lash or timing adjustments to mess with, just rip out the stock rockers and bolt these in. I noticed a definate increase in pull between the 3000 and 4000 range. John sells them for about $295 shipped. If you decide to get these, I have the step by step instructions John sent me.
As far as your set up, does the F&B make the dramatic increases that everybody says it does. How do you like the Hypertech ? I got the famous B&G flash, but it made no noticable difference whatsoever.

Message: From Idle to 3000 the F&B just rocks compared to the stock TB. 3000-redline you can tell but not as much due to air already flowing fast. Very good upgrade part for any 3.9/5.2/5.9L engine.
It's not the bore that helps the most it's the air tabs that really hinders the performance.

Boy, that's sure silly - where'd that information come from? Flowbench testing shows where the real gains come from - visit the F&B site. The tabs and bore extensions doubtless influence flow a small amount, but the biggest improvement to the 50mm is the removal of the 'venturi' found in the stock TB bore. It's there to shroud the throttle plates, giving a 'softer' tip-in and smoother driving for the average truck/SUV buyer, who cares naught about performance. It reduces the TB bore area substantially - that's what inhibits the flow/performance, not the tabs.

Message: K&N worked great for me. 7 HP according to my G-Tech Pro runs. Makes a whooosing sound when you get on it.
Cut the flap out next to the radiator for "ram-air" effect.

Message: Mike: I just went with a 6 inch round Gibson muffler, not the whole cat-back system, simply because all you gain with the cat-back is about a 18 inch section from the cat to the muffler, the stock R/T has 3 inch from the muffler out. Anyway, it sounds good...not quite as loud as I though, just a slight rumble over stock. But no drone at any speeds and quiet in the cab. It sounds best at start up. I got the Gibson muffler through bigexhaust.com for $80 bucks.
