Subject: kenne bell with mods? IP: Logged
Message: I want to get a kenne bell supercharger on my 2002 r/t so would it be a good idea to get the r/t cylinder heads, m1 manifold, and a throttle body first or would these not make a difference?

Message: I strongly suggest NOT doing ANY mods to the truck before getting a blower. The blower kits are for stock trucks, and any changes to the engine can cause problems with the blower's performance, particularly in controlling detonation. The blower's auxillary fueler is designed for the stock amount of air flow, and if you change that very much you will go lean and detonate - the result can be melted pistons, but usually it's just a blown head gasket....:(
Those of us with blowers have learned this the hard way - although I've not blown a head gasket on my R/T, I could have....I was lucky. You can mod the engine SLOWLY after the blower install, watching for detonation and changing the fueler to compensate.
BTW, I have a lot of expereince with positive displacement blowers on street cars and love them, but I believe that the trucks will work better with a centrifugal blower. My R/T had too much low-end power stock, roasting tires unless I was very gentle off the line. How bad that would be with a positive displacement blower like the KB I can only guess. The Paxton on my R/T starts building good boost by 2000-2500 rpm and keeps on going up to 10 psi. Also, you don't have to remove the blower to change the plugs! ;)
