Subject: people with fast trucks, please help me IP: Logged
Message: Alright i have a 1999 Dakota R/T. i want to make it faster. i heard that a 52mm Fastman throttle body, MSD ignition, and new headers are the way to go. How much hp will the throttle bodies give me?

Message: I have an MSD and it didn't do much, but when the SC goes on it will help a lot, you want to get a 52mm t/b (10-15hp and goes up w/ more mods) Some good headers (as long as possible, JBA are WAAYY too short for any good power, I like the Mopar) A Mopar PCM or a Flash on your stock one will give you a lot of HP (18-25) get some autolite 3923 plugs, an accel cap and rotor, and some good wires and a 180 thermostat. What will give you some good power for not a lot of $$$$...
one of the first things I would do is change your oil to synthetic and don't dare use a Fram filter. (Red line, Royal Purple, Amsoil are all really good)

Message: Headers, 50mm TB, and a PCM.
Mopar full length headers, no shorty's. Either ditch the cat and use an O2 simm box, or use a hi-flow cat - Into true 3" exhasut.
As far as TB's - Spend the few extra bucks and get a good billet TB, like F&B. If you're gonna mod the heck out of it later down the road, get a 52mm, If you don't plan in doing heads, cam, blower, or nitrous, stick with a 50mm.
The MSD - You really won't see much if any HP out of it. It's more of a tuning/safety device. You can use them for rev limits, timing retard etc... For blowers and nitrous applications. They help a little on regular engines by burning better cuz of the hotter spark/multiple spark.
Go with the Mopar PCM. Best bang for the buck as far as computers go for the 98-2000 R/T's. Unless you wanna pay for a hi dollar custom flash! :-)
Then maybe later get an M1 intake manifold. They ar a big hit with the R/T guys.

Message: One other thing with the MSD, be prepared to buy a new cap and rotor (all of $15) every 10-15k miles, it will burn the terminals on it. But you don't need it till you get the blower. If you want a good T/B take a look at
www.APSprecision.com
They use a stainless steel shaft that is very strong, when under boost other unmentioned t/b's have been known to bend shafts, causing a stuck throttle, VERY BAD on a blown 5.9... just a word of caution.

Message: I consider fast as anything in the mid 13's for a club or quad cab and low 13's for a standard cab. My truck isn't there yet but when the supercharger goes on it should be close. I would also like to know what got your 4x4 to run 14.07

Message: Buzz, who has bent shafts on the "other" mentioned TB's??? I've never heard of it and I know Bruce Bridges(F&B) personally. Only problems I have heard with the F&B TB's is occasionally when using a lot of nitrous the shafts will bind due to different effects of expansion and compression on metals from the extremem cold of the nitrous. But Bruce will repair or replace any TB free of charge if it was found to be a defect in manufacture or materials. And since it's a custom designed billit TB, made by a guy with a degree in air flow characteristics, it outflows any ported stocker on the market.

Message: 2.02 intakes,1.624 exhaust, 56 cc chambers, heads matched to block, intake matched to heads, tunnel ram, 900 cfm throttle, long tube headers,3" duals, special solid lifter cam, molly coated pistons, and some other stuff that does not include nitrous or superchargers. This engine put out 452 HP @ 6500 RPM and 410 lb torque @ 5000 RPM -corrected,on a real dyno. You got to run a lot of compression and keep the heads cool. Them boys can do it with Chevits an Ferds there ain't no reason you can't do it with a MoPar! A 5.9L Dakota R/T should be in the low 13's from the factory.Just that dear old Chrysler don't want to do it. They can get 750 HP out of the 355 Nascar engine. I had 22 years at Chrysler power plant development. I have seen them lose a hundred horsepower by phasing a camshaft wrong. Trouble is they do it on purpose.Ask a guy that goes by afi360 in these threads if I know anything about engines.

Message: Sounds like a strong engine, to say the least.
Now I've got to ask the burning question - Why did you put that in a 4x4?? Instead of a reg cab short bed 2 wheel drive with some monster slicks!

Message: Why is it you have all your letters capitalized? Is that the way you make your computer shout? Or don't you know when to use caps? It seems that those who find fault so easily have no clue about the subject they are criticizing. These are the ones that figure out how to open the hood on a vehicle and think that gives them a doctorate in automotive engineering. You accuse other people of being on crack when it is probably yourself that is doing the drugs. How else can you explain your inability to comprehend reality. Even scholars sit back and listen to people because one can always learn something new. Unless you are one of the very few that know everything, which obviously that is the case. Oh, by the way the key positioned on the left side of your keyboard, third one up, is the "caps lock" key.
