Is 8.5 hours of 20-25mph with 4x4 on, on 12-20inches of snow gonna make my transfer case need some work? I was on I-81 during the major snow storm around here in virginia took my 8.5 hours to do a 2.5 hour normal drive....suked big time....and i still got 10.5mpg with my 2001 4.7 4x4 durango loaded with luggage.

We only got about 20 inches here in upstate NY. I went to work this morning and still couldn't get in the driveway. Right now I am driving my Intrepid because I am in the middle of the engine swap in the Dak. But I really hate snow, I am a summer person.

Also, I saw on the Weather channel, that putting weight in the back of a vehicle isn't any good. It only gives you more momentum if/when you spin out. And they saw it doesn't give you any more traction then a good set of snow tires. I always did it when I had my Mustangs But it was just something I saw last week incase anyone is interested.

Thanks
Dan

25" here. Your transfer case should be fine,I plow with mine with no problems. Milage sounds typical; either lots of 4x4 use or towing 3000 lbs both drop my 4.7 Dak to about 11 mpg.

93, long bed, auto 3.55s open diff, bfg a/t KO and had no problem getting around in NJ. I wanted to see how the weight would help and was suprised with the improvement. I was driving around monday before they plowed when there was 2ft motorcross rutts in the snow without any problem. It only took loading my bed to the roof of the cap solid with 2,500-3,000 lbs of snow. The problem came when I tried to slow down to get into a Dunkin Donuts parking lot and slid in to the snow bank at 10mph. The weight gave me enough traction I just threw it in reverse and backed out without any trouble. Sweeett!!!
