Message: the cams have no effect on engine rpm at a steady cruise. the only way to change that is to change the gears in ass end, or put a taller or shorter tire.

Message: I wonder, let's see, ever seen a Jeep Grand Cheroke with the 4.7 HO engine ever cruise on the highway? Ya, me neither.
Give me a break. If I use 89 octane gas, will that change my exhaust sound, and what kinds of gains will I see?-NOT

Message: OK walla walla,
I think I see your question now. As said, it won't change your gear ratio,
BUT, When I'm towing my catamaran sailboat on the highway, (I have a five speed manual and 3.55 rear end gears), It tows much easier at a lower rpm (with the load of the boat), with the HO cams installed. In 5th, the tach reads 2K @ 65mph. With the boat, before the cams, I used to use 4th, now 5th pulls just as easy at 65mph due to the increase in torque.
Sorry about the smart a$$ first answer.
