Message: Gears are made my Motive, several vendors sell them.
email these guys for prices:
prtsdawg@tampabay.rr.com
John@southeastrt.com
1.7 RRs will give you a boost in hp about 10-15 but they also make a ton of torque as well.

Message: texasRT: I just put Harland Sharp non-adjustable aluminum 1.7 roller rockers in my 2002 R/T about two weeks ago. You can buy these from John Mercedes at SoutheastRT. He had a hand in designing them specifically for our trucks. They are super easy to install, much easier than crower or comp. Just rip out the stock arms and bolt these right in, since they are non afjustable there is no need for timing adjustments or turning the motor over making each cylinder open or closed and you use the stock rods. They are $298 shipped. I noticed it definately pulls harder in the 3000 rpm range and jumps from about 2800 to 4000 a lot quicker. But as with any bolt on mod, its not THAT noticable. Gears is supposedly the most kick in the butt for the money. I just ordered my 4.56's today from Randy's Ring and Pinion for $187.00....I'll keep everyone posted after they are installed. If you decide to get the Harland Sharp 1.7 RR's, email me for any questions on the install, Ill be glad to help.

Message: also, keep in mind that gears make no HP, just feels like it due to increased torque. 3.92's to 4.56's supposed to make about a 50 ft-lbs of torque increase. Try getting 50ft-lbs for $187.00 some other way.....its a good mod, I think you would enjoy.

Message: texasrt..for $187.00 you will notice big diff in the low end especialy ...however it is important to mention that your highway speeds decrease quite significantly. also your allready 5.9 gas guzzler will now be using more gas...not to deture you but all the info is better than half

Message: sorry, didn't mean to mislead you, I guess I was assuming that you knew the motor would be running at higher RPMs. According to "Randy's Ring & Pinion" website gear calculator, an R/T with stock tires and 4.56 gears will run approximately 385 RPMs higher at any given speed than the stock 3.92's. So at normal crusing speed of 60mph you would be turning about 2400 rather than 2000. I have talked to several RT guys with 4.56's before I decided to get some, they all agreed that the RPM deal is not an issue and unless you do a lot of 75 and 80mph driving, the gas milage is not effected, some even say it increased with city driving due to the motor not being bogged down in OD all the time. They all also agreed that it would have been their first mod if they would have known how well it improved the trucks performance.

Message: I had 4.56 installed. I love it, my 60ft times have dropped dramatically. the problem I have is that I dont have a M-1 yet. The gears put the engine into the higher RPMs and it cant breathe up there very well. You will also definately need some sticky tires to get any kind of launch. As for the highway, it will run approximately 3000 RPM at 75 MPH. I have a 00 R/T. I cant wait to see what a stall and a M-1 will do for me.
