Subject: Removed Clutch Fan?? IP: Logged
Message: I recently removed the clutch fan and now I need to put a relay on my electric fan that was stock. I called a dealer that makes electric fans and he said that I would need to run an inline relay becuae a 30 watt relay would not be enough on its own and would fry my electric fan in time. Where can I get a relay to run inline with my current one...or where can I get a 50 watt relay to run on its own???? Thanks

Message: You should be fine by leaving it alone, just install the 180 T stat. let the elec fan come on by itself.. Most on here let it be. I let my 2 Daks be, use a 180 and no probs..

Message: Ryan,
suit yourself, but you don't need anything else.
Some have done this, and they live up north.
The gauges move pretty quickly on a dodge, and mine pretty much stays at the same place.
I live in HOT, HUMID Houston/Galveston TX.

Message: You probaly arent going to be able to change the temp that your fan comes on unless you hook it to a DRB (at your local Dodge service center) If you are running AC you will need two fans or at least a temp sensor the has an override switch that will turn the fans on before the computer. AutoZone has temp switches that have a sender you install in the upper radiator inlet to get an accurate reading once you T-stat opens. I have 01 dual Vette fans on my Gen II. they come on at 189 and go off at 180 all on their own. I love it. I have had friends that have had cooling problems removing the clutch. just takes time. good luck
daaaaaang!

Message: If you want to run a relay, go to you local parts stor and get an Air Conditioning Relay. Those are designed to run all the time. Should work just fine. I was using it on mine and had no problems what so ever.

Message: dakula,
Have you done this on a 4.7? Well I have over a year and a half ago.
Ryan, Is this on a 4.7?
I live in a hot climate, and have gone to a 180deg. t-stat. If your a/c is on, not just the comp. engaged, then the elec. fan is ALWAYS on. O/w, it somes on at a certain temp. Houston has some of the worst traffic and heat, mine has no problem with the stock elec fan set-up, no belt clutch/fan.

Message: Yes I know that if they a/c is on then the electric fan is running...I run the a/c all the time now becuase I want the engine to stay cool. But I would like the fan to turn on at 180* no matter if the a/c is on or not. Currently it will turn on at 220* without the a/c on, but I want it to come on sooner. Its a 3.9L not the 4.7L. Can anyone help me!!

Message: Ok Ryan,
good advise .alex.
the 3.9 has the cast iron heads, the 4.7-alumimun heads, plastic intake, better cooling-
in other words, different animal
I don't blame you for wanting more security against getting too hot.

Message: I have an 2002 dakota that will overheat suddenly while sitting and running. But when you look at the clutch fan it doesn't look like it is turning fast enough. Replaced the thermostat but still is overheating any ideas?
