Message: Ok , getting bored , and after doing a search just want 1 simple question answered.
With a homeade intake , and a Flowmaster 40 series delta flow , if I port and polish th T.B , will I notice ANY difference?

Message: Kenneth,
To answer your question, yes, how much? Dunno
I ported mine, and noticed smoother acceleration, and I also cleaned the plunger on the IAC sensor, and noticed better idle.
The whole thing is, if anything was gained, it's a plus. It doesn't cost anything other than the bits on the dremel. The butt dyno didn't give up much more info than that.
I would do it again though.

Message: O.K thanks. Now I'm wondering if I would notice better results if I would just find a used T.B off a 2001 or later Dakota , as opposed to porting and polishing mine? Gotta a place around here that still lets you wander around the junkyard , and its FULL of cars and trucks. They even GAVE me the emblem off the hood of an 99 Dak.(well I had to take it off) I don't know what I'm gonna do with it , but I have it!!

Message: I know for a fact the 2002 TB's won't work.
CW has a 2001 on his, and said everything matched right up.
Definitely worth looking for one. I do believe that would be a kick you would feel.
I had a 2002 68MM TB, and could not make it work, because of differences in the sensor connectors, and the way the IAC sensor had 2 bolts on one, and 1 bolt securing it to the TB itself.
When I get around to it, I'm going to grab an '01 68MM and port it.

Message: notchlx: It was the fact that the TB you had was off a durnango that it wouldn't work. Dakotas didn't get this TB till 2003. Had to do a little looking to find that out.
kennungesser: Mainly throttle response and part throttle torque is what you will feel. Nice for a daily driver.

Message: CW,
Where did you end up with the "FIND" in a shop manual or something. The whole TB thing had me puzzled.
That's cool that I now know I can expand on my search now, to include 2002's if they're DAK's.
So much for the 02 Durango, that one was free.

Message: CW, not to dispute you, but, if you're talking about the fan shroud, then nope. If you mean the plastic slid plate on the bottom, if the fan is gone, you don't have to remove that either. But it helps to pop the bottom one off, and like CW says, it's pretty easy.

Message: No I ment the plasic piece at the bottom. Mine still had the fan when i did it. I pretty much did all my mods at once when the truck was pretty much brand new hard to keep track.
Notchlx: Just observation and a little memory work. The durangos pretty much always get the stuff before the dakotas. I remembered looking at the IAC on a new durango that I inspected. Then I had some older books from DC on some of the differences.

Message: I kinda got lost, but you(all) are saying that a TB from either a '01 or an '02 4.7 Dak will fit and is better than the '00? I have an '00 QC and was looking to find a TB this weekend. What is the difference between the '00 and the '01 and '02?

Message: I noticed a big difference in going to the bigger TB. More low end torque, and much smoother mid range, this letting it climb through the rpm's much quicker. It is a good mod for the buck, espcially if you port a 68 out.

Message: I ported mine on my 01 4.7.
It came with the 68mm. I got the idea from CW and others. There are some sites with directions.
Basically, I used a dremel tool and some grinder bits. Took off the entire 'step' and the bottom, and some off the sides. (sounds like a hair cut).
I also ground the screws flush with the bar. Some even ground the bar some, I didn't.
Even though I still used the same valve, there is alot of material on the walls on the outside of the valve that can be 'opened' up or taken off.
Remove your tube going to the TB, and you'll see what I mean. I left the valve in, so I wouldn't take anything off where the valve seats, that would be bad.
Of course, take the TB off the intake manifold before doing this, then wash it, or use high power air to get all the fine particles off before reinstalling it.
Good luck! Mine went well, works great!

Message: I went looking last night at every place here in town that might have a TB from a 01 or 02 dak. The only place that had or could get one was the dealer. $250.00 WTF?!?! I don't F()@#ing think so, is that how much I'm going to have to pay for a new TB?
If that's the case, I'll just port and polish my 00 TB and spend the money on something else for a while,S~

Message: I know that changing the bore shape in a carb can change the way the fuel is atomized. No one is actually opening up the body of the TB clear down to in front of the blade. Correct? It's seems to me that this could change the rate at which the air goes thorugh...possibly in either direction...good or bad..

Message: gps, what's your coordinates?
anyway, yes, I opened my 01, 68mm TB on my 4.7 all the way to the blade.
The gas DOES NOT get anywhere near this on the 4.7, just air! The injectors are right in front of the valves on the 4.7.

Message: Oh I know the injectors are further down the road. I was just thinking that the effect could be the same. no? You could actaully change the venturi effect and change the speed of the air then? I'm pulling this from forgot physics years ago. I could be off here. Do you know how big you opened it to? What I was thinking was that I could through mine up on the mill and open it up some all the way up to the blade.
