Subject: Spintech Side Exhaust IP: Logged
Message: After looking into various exhaust systems, I've gotten interested in the Spintech side exhaust. I like the side exhaust look (as long as it's not terribly flashy) and like the V8 sound. Anybody have any experience or opinions on these? Seems to me that everybody with a truck puts duals out the back. I'm looking for a good sounding exhaust that's a little different (and won't break the bank).
Thanks,
BAE

Message: If I remember correctly, the Spintech side exit is only for non-QC 5.9 trucks.
I have a side exit on my truck, it's Ravin muffler with pipes bent from Midas. Just have a muffler shop bend some pipes up for you.
I have a QC 4.7.

Message: Well, I've asked earlier if their system would fit at QC 4.7, and was told that it should exit at about the same spot. I don't think the 5.9 part should matter, cause it all comes down to tubing size anyway, right? I guess I'm a little more curious about sound. I don't want it too loud, but I want it to sound racy, if you know what I mean.

Message: Try doing some actual research before you post something. As in going to Spintechs website, maybe? Cause if you did it says Dakota Exhaust: Available for the Dakota R/T, 5.9. No where does it say 4.7 or QC. Therefore I deducted that it wasn't available for those applications. Get it? It didn't say it was available for a 4.7 QC so I assumed this mean that you couldn't get it for a 4.7 QC. And if you think the QC or RC doesn't matter then you're the retard because theres this concept called "length." As in the QC is longer than the RC? Does this ring a bell? And the engine size also matters because the 5.9 uses 3 inch pipes and the 4.7 uses 2 1/2 inch pipes. That'd be a good reason it wouldn't fit. And maybe the fact that I have a side exit on my QC 4.7 would show that I have some experience in this field. Dude, seriously that was the biggest waste of time for yourself and me. You could have taken 5 minutes to do actual research but instead you start blabbing like a moron and make an ass of yourself.

Message: Oh and BAE984, I don't know if you've done any searches around here, but most guys with the 4.7 recommend you stay with the stock 2 1/2 pipes because the 4.7 is really picky about exhaust. You go too big and you could end up losing massive low end. I kept my 2 1/2 pipes and I still lost a bit of low end. Just something to keep in mind.

Message: Thanks, The Dude. I have read about the pipe size, but I didn't know if maybe using a 3 in pipe would make up for all the kinks and 180 degree turn in the tubing.
Also, I did some research on length, and the QC and CC dakotas have the same wheelbase (131 in). Which makes me think it doesn't matter about the version you're installing it on.
Anyway, I probably won't be able to do anything to it for a few months anyway.

Message: Pete, if you give Spintech the dimensions, they will build it. I was going to have them make me a dual in/out 2" for my piped RX-7 that needs more noise suppressing.
I am looking to do true dual Spintech in the next month or so, but I am going to dump mine. I like dumped exhausts too much now. Once you go to them, you don't bother with all that extra metal for bending etc. I think it looks better too.

Message: i called spintech and they wanted 330 for the side exhaust. do u guys think a shop could do a custom one for cheaper? i was thinking of cutting the cat off (its shot anyways) and putting a perf. muffler in that location, and this should give enough room to run one inlet and 2 outlets without any u-turn curves. then two nice tips on the side. by the way, its a 97 5.2 reg cab 5spd.

Message: adam, that is a really tight spot to fit an aftermarket muffler unless you get something like a short small dia. round -- like from MBRP. Just put a straight pipe through there, it will make your life a hell of a lot easier.
330 is actually a really nice price. A shop can not make those U-bends, they must order pre-fabbed mandrel bend Us and use those. You could probably get really close to that price having a shop do it for you, but it will not be mandrel bent or to the quality the Spintech would be.

Message: I have true duals, 3rd cat removed 4.7L 5 speed with 2 1/2 inch pipe from the precats back coming out the side in front of the tire bent over the frame, with a 10" glass pack on the long pipe and a 12" glass pack on the short pipe. Sounds like a NASCAR, lost NO low end torque, and picked up 3 tenths in the 1/4 mile. This engine realy comes on strong with true duals and the third cat removed, and the JBA headers was a good addition also.
Total cost of the whole system, Uh for me Nothing. For the Average Joe probly $375.

Message: Jay, spintech's site is www.spintechmufflers.com. If you mave the Mopar/PPH headers on your truck and dont mind spending $600, I would recommend you go with their true dual 2.5 setup for the R/T. Very nice system and has proven hp gains on the dyno. Go to www.gsmotorsports.com for a good price on the true duals.

Message: I currently am running a Borla exhaust on my '99 CC R/T running duals in the back with 2.5" piping. It isn't very loud unless I dump the duals though. If I was to take off the Borla exhaust and put a Spintech in its place, would I get that loud and throaty sound. I like having my exhaust loud, it sounds better :). What do you recommend me getting to be louder? Thanks,
-Matt
