Subject: Seriously, Spintech or MBRP alum catback IP: Logged
Message: Plain and simple, I have narrowed my catback choice to Spintech and MBRP. Knowing what you know about factors such as: low end torque loss, sound, reliability in 100+ temperatures, etc., etc. WHICH ONE DO YOU ALL LIKE BETTER?? Both are Aluminized dual exit w/ Spintech at 2 1/2", and MBRP at 3" (I think) exit. I can't afford the stainless. After shipping, the Spintech will be about $345, and the MBRP will be about $435.
This would bolt on my '02 4.7 QC 4x4 auto 3.55LSD. I like Gibson and Magnaflow, but this is what I've narrowed my choice to.
Please give me any and all arguments for both.
Thank you!!

Message: Both will take extreme heat. The RX7 Newsgroup actually had a lot of input with Spintech to design a muffler to withstand the VERY hot temperatures a Rotary engine puts out. I mean, very hot.
Both are high quality and good fits.
Spintech has a realy neat side exit exhaust and true dual replacement -- very good looking.
MBRP is deep as fuk. I havn't heard any other exhausts that can give a tone even close to as deep as the MBRP is.
MBRP is extremely smooth.
Spintech is louder and raspyer.
Spintech will get you more attention, but the MBRP will get you a lot of comments from performance, exhaust, and mechanic type people.
The MBRP is the sound my dad and his buddies were looking for decades ago.
Jonas/Premeir Automotive sells both and they have the best prices.
Most of the opinions above are subjective.

Message: Will the side exhaust look ok on a QC? I looked on their website, but it says Dakota R/T. I guess it depends on where it exits on the R/T, since the QC's bed is shorter.

Message: I don't really like the side exit look. With my luck, I'd end up searing my shin against it. To answer your question, BAE984, the wheelspan is almost the exact same on the QC as the CC, so the bed size doesn't really matter. The side exit would be in almost the exact same place.
I actually heard reviews that said the Spintech wasn't very loud. I don't really care if it's kind of quiet, but I don't want extremely loud. I feel like that's overcompensating for something... (like lack of performance). People seem to rave about the MBRP sound. I just wish I could compare apples & apples, you know. Plus the $100 difference is a factor.

Message: go to spintech.com . They have a great product and were very helpfull when I bought mine. You can buy direct from the factory if there is no dealer close by. I love the way it sounds.

Donny, which setup did you go with? The dual rear exit catback?

Message: I really like the mbrp. I couldn't find just a muffler off of their site, only had catbacks, and since I have dumped exhaust now, well I would have it dumped then. All I need is the muffler!

Message: Vince,
I was pretty pinched for money at the time and just went with one of their sportsman models welded into the stock system. Didn't even gut the cat cause it was just replaced under warranty and couldn't see spending the money on a cat-box. Also got alot of opinions on this site that a dual exit wasn't the best fit for my v-6. I liked the looks of their side exit in front of the back tire but was worried about ground clearance.

Message: Well, I think I am sold on MBRP. I plan on keeping this truck for the long haul, and I don't want to always be thinking about how great the exhaust "could have" sounded. Both websites have sound bites of the exhaust, although the Spintech one is from a Stang driving by, and the MBRP is a stationary truck. The MBRP sound, even on the website, is incredible. It may be a little loud for me, but I guess I'll just have to back that sound up with some more mods! Mike, I appreciate your input on MBRP, and thanks Donny for the Spintech piece. Maybe I'll have to find this thread once it's archived, and let everyone know how it works out.
