Subject: Need rearend help/info IP: Logged
Message: I am putting a 5.9L into a 1992 3.9L Dakota. The truck has an open differential. What would be the best way to change this to LSD or Posi? Are all Dodge rearends interchangable? I have an older Dodge Ramcharger in my back yard, it's an 84. Can I use that?
Thanks
Dan

Message: Your dakota has a 8 1/4" rearend. The ramcharger probably has a 8 3/4" rearend. It will fit with some minor fabrication. Make a post asking FAZDAK how to do this. He has a 8 3/4" in his 94.

Message: more than likely your ramcharger has a 9 1/4 in it or a Dana. 8 3/4's went out of production a long time ago

Message: Oh, Dana's rearend.
I liked it better when it wasn't as wide as mine!
It had two usable ports too!, And that port in the grill!

Message: I thought the full-size tucks had a wider track? If so you'd have to shorten the whole thing? Couldn't you use a Grand Cherokee Dana 44?

Message: the ram axle would be wide so it would stick out a lot. youll have to reweld the spring pads also possibly the shock mounts.
the GC axle is too narrow.
You shoudl be able to use one from a 97 and up dakota. i would find a 4x4 9 1/4 axle with posi or one off a wrecked RT
I got a complete axle from thes place in Arizona for 600$

Message: If you don't have any luck finding the 9-1/4, I have a GenII 8-1/4 sure grip (posi), with 3.90 gears in my possession.
It has very, very, very low miles...less than 6,000mi, and I would take $600 for it.
If you're interested, just shoot me an e-mail

Message: I'm in Kentucky...so shipping to NY would be via truck freight.
I'm willing to guess that it would run you $200 to $250, but that is just a guess.
I work with alot of trucklines at my job...if your interested, I could get you a freight rating from KY to NY.
