Im kinda stumped here. I just bought a used 1999 Dodge Dakota CC 4x4 5.2l and was wondering what you guys thought would be the best perforamnce mods for the money.(moneys tight as hell lol gas guzzler...hehehe but hey u dont buy a v8 for good gas milage u want that buy a civic :) ) I was lookin at those two intakes and a few exausts. What should I get? O I was lookin at a Gibson single cat-back, the pacesetter one i forgot exact name, and the K&N exaust but I think that may be for only 4x2. Any help would be geatly areciated.

From what I got from K&N, they've stopped making the exhaust systems. (Too much competition out there for them.)

Best performance mods?

Cold Air Intake System - K&N Gen-II mainly but the others work well also
Modified Throttle Body - Fastman or Flometrics
Decent Cat-Back System - They all come very close to each other but the ultimate decision is the sound. Dynomax is the most mellow and the Flomaster is pretty loud with the 3-Chamber

Also, invest in a set of quality plug wires, Cap/Rotor, a 180 degree T'Stat, and Autolite 3923 spark plugs. Helps control the detonation and runs much better as well.

Thanks for the reply so you think all of the catback exausts and intakes are pretty much the same? So it wouldt be worth spending 100$ or more on a differnt intake? And what do you think of the Gibson cat-backs? Thanks

1999 CC 5.2l Ls 3.55

The only that has shown better gains (in some cases) is the K&N Gen-II system. However, the K&N, Volant, Pacesetter, Intense Performance, all perform about equally. With the V8's, a slightly larger intake tube such as the K&N Gen-II (4") works better, but on the V6's, a 3.5" tube works very well.

On the Gibson exhaust, it's a reputable company with a lot of their products out there on different vehicles. Flowmaster, Dynomax, Gibson, Borla, Pacesetter, they all do the same thing and all flow very close to each other. The Dynomax UltraFlo-SS and Borla Race mufflers are the only ones that i've heard of pushing 1000+cfm.

But that doesn't mean a whole lot since the flow testing was done on a regulated flowbench. The exhaust systems work on pulses, hot/cold changes, and sound redirection...nothing like what a flowbench shows. To me, the flow ratings are useless to a point.
