Subject: 180 Thermostat Install - Problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 4.7L and when I attempted to install
the Robert Shaw 180 Tstat I could not re-use the o-ring gasket from the mopar stock Tstat. My 180 Tstat did not come with a gasket. Dodge tells me there is no seperate gasket for the 4.7L, that the Tstat and gasket are sold as one unit.
Can anyone tell me the solution for replacing
my stock 4.7L Tstat with the 180 OEM? (gasket?)

Message: Unless you slashed the OEM gasket when taking it off of the stock T-stat you can reuse it. The only thing I did was file the new T-stat with a notch that matched the stock T-stat. This notch lines up with a "bump" inside the gasket.
If you did destory the OEM gasket, sorry for your luck.

Message: When I removed the o-ring from the stock Tstat the o-ring broke (I was careful). I had to purchase another stock Tstat to drive it because I could not find a gasket.
Anyway, thanks for the info. I will check with
Pepboys.

Message: Just use some rtv gasket maker. I used it on my 180tstat and it was holding fine when i changed to a 160tstat.
