I just bought an '02 quad cab with the 4.7L, 4x4. I bought it used and didn't get the original window sticker. How can I tell what gearing it has? any way to tell from the VIN?

duh again!! nevermind.. I guess I should learn to search the post archives before I post a question. I found the old post about the sticker in the glove box.. I have the 3.92 axle (good news there!)

Thanks anyway to everyone... this board has been a lot of help... lots of ideas for future mods!

you can go to the dealer and have them run a vip
report. it should be either on a label in your glovebox, or it will be on the front of the rear axle tube- usually on the driver's side

For those that don't know and to get relatively close........jack up the rear, mark both the tire and the pinion at the u-joint. do a full revolution of the wheel while counting the pinion. I.e, one full spin of the tire and four revolutions of the pinion = 4:00 to 1 ratio. This is for a posi rear by the way.

or you could just look on your back axle... it's stamped all over it.
