I see a lot of newer Dakota et's but was just curious how the older 318 magnum Dakotas here run, and with what modifications?

Thanks

My old Dak ran a 15.8 stock, when it was about a year old. 93 ClubCab 318 v8 auto tranny.

All I did to it was let the tailgate down, and pulled the air filter off.

My best was a 14.679 under ideal conditions.
With a 3.92 instead of a 3.21 I probably would have seen 13s easy.

b1llyw,

I am running the AX-15 tranny that came with the stock v-6. I am also running the stock 8-1/4 rear. I thought that this combo would not last a fraction of the 3 years it has been behind the 360, but it has held up very well. I will eventually have to do a tremec tko and an 8-3/4.

Thanks

That's good to hear. I'm about to put a 408 in front of the NV3500 and 8 1/4 in my '95. I'm sure a TKO will be in my future also.

the ax-15 is a manual trans right? If so i wonder if this is the trans that i have in my truck. It would be very nice seeing that i am hopefully dropping in a 5.2 or 5.9 in the near future.

PS- While the 360 motor was getting broken in, with no supercharger, the naturally aspirated version would run 13.4's to 13.2's with no problems.

As far as I know, the 95 was running factory injectors up to the last.... he killed an injector one day at the track and borrowed one from my V-6 truck to make the last runs of the bracket race.... So at least a PIECE of my V-6 went 13's that season. Hahahahah

Anyhow, if you are going to step up to twin turbo's you will need an auxillary fuel pump or a much larger in-tank pump, probably an Fuel Management Unit and if you go high on boost (10-14 psi) then you will need to step up to 21# or 24# injectors. This will cause your idle to be crappy and it will run rich when not in boost, but there are electronic solutions to thin out the fuel situation. I would suggest calling Marty Fletcher at KRC Perfomance (www.krcperformance.com) and asking his opinion. He's got at least one 11-sec Gen II truck and maybe a few others that are really fast. He's got lots of Magnum experience.

Thanks, I'll try that site.I'm currently running 19# stock STANG! I know cross breed. I wrench for a Dodge dealer so I have access to scan tool and that says the 19# rnot too lean, but plug colour woukd suggest otherwise. So I thought with turbos upwards of 30#? Got some info from a chic in U.S. running a Stocker and shes running stock 2.5 turbo injecters. What ever size they are? If anybody knows let me know. That might be the cheep way.Alex, the 3.9 and 5.9 injecters are the same, and Ithought that buddy's truck run 12.20 not 13's?

That particular day, he was running naturally aspirated (he cracked on block and had to rebuild the 360 so he was letting it break in) and it was still good for 13.40's.....

I know that the Fords run huge injectors in their turbo applications, but our trucks are speed-density style systems and the computer can't handle an injector that large without some piggy-back electronics to help it idle and operate under closed loop. I'd say depending on your boost levels, you could probably get away with 24# injectors. Even if they are Ford Motorsport Injectors. Those are made by Bosch and are much higher quality than the Siemans injectors that come from the factory.....
