Subject: hood scoops/ram air

Message:
I've seen a lot of aftermarket hoods with single or dual scoops, ram air, cowl induction, shaker hoods, etc. But I've noticed when I'm driving in the rain that raindrops on the top of the hood tend to not move at all, except the ones near the very front edge of the hood. My point is that how much good can a scoop or shaker do if it's so far back on the hood that it's in stagnant air instead of moving air.

I recall seeing another post about this that mentioned that you can actually do more harm than good with some of these scoops unless the air intake is 2" or more above the surrounding surface of the hood.

What's the best setup to actually get a ram air effect to force air into the intake? I did see one aftermarket hood that had the NACA style duct very close to the front edge of the hood, and that seemed like it would be the best.

I might do some quick tests with a water column manometer to see where the high pressure and low pressure areas are on the hood.

Anybody ever checked this?

Strat79,
Call Jonas @ Premier-Automotive.net,
he used a wind tunnel to test his GTS2 hood.
It works great and looks bad ass.
