Subject: Gibson 6" Round Muffler is too quiet
IP: Logged

Message:
I just had my new Gibson 6 inch round muffler installed on my 2002 R/T. Immediately upon start up I was disappointed. I was considerng Flowmaster but most on this board said they were junk so I went with the more expensive Gibson. This particular Gibson muffler is no louder or sounds any better than the can that was on it from the factory. The only minor difference I can even notice is that when you let off the accelerator at about 60 or 70, it has a low rumble that you have to be listening for to hear. Seeing as you really can't tell any performance difference in mufflers, I would not recommend this product. And while Im on the subject, I ordered it from bigexhaust.com which took 18 days to get it to my door.

Gibson is pretty well known for being quiet, you should have asked around first.

Louder may mean more interior resonance noise which will become annoying after a while.......I'm very happy with my gibson kit for my '02. I had flowmasters on my 10 sec mustang but it saw very little street use. Loud interior noise is NOT what i wanted when reseaching systems. As much as I love flowmasters, I passed based on me owning them previously and posts on this board

The Gibosn may have better back pressure characteristics than a louder muffler. The Power vs Noise argument.

I recently took the Gibson off in favor of a Flowmaster Delta 40. It's no louder inside, but has a much better sound outside. Of course, muffler sound is subjective, but I didn't like the Gibson sound either.

I think Gibson is too quiet also. I had a Gibson and catback and cut the muffler out and put in a Flowmaster 40. It sounded so much better. That was on my Ram. I got an MBRP for my '02 because I wanted stainless. That's a nice setup. But my '95 is getting an orignal Flowmaster 40 to go along with the 408.

Any of you guys that were disappointed with your Gibson muffler still have it? I have a DynoMax Super Turbo catback on my 97 5.2 CC and it is too loud for my taste after installing a set of Mopar headers. I'm looking for something quieter, so if any of you still have a Gibson muffler that you are not going to use, I might be interested in buying it. Let me know.
