Message: Great Site Guys. I'm a new Dakota enthusiast. I just bought my first Dakota. '98 CC, R/T. I love the performance of the stock engine, but now I've got the fever. Need more power. I've been looking at past post here to get any ideas. I'm looking at all the usal mods like the intake, probably the K&N Gen II. If I upgrade the plugs , Thermostat, Wires, Maybe oil to Royal Purple, will I see gains in HP and Gas mileage?
I've only got 25,000 miles on the truck, so is it even really broke it yet?
Any advice would be great, Thanks

(I'm also an ex-Chevy owner - BB ProStreet Camaro)
Start with the Intake (Cold Air Kit), Exhaust (Headers and Cat-Back), Throttle Body, and tune-up components first. The biggest gains are to be had from those listed.
Also, look into installing a 180 degree T'Stat, Autolite 3923's (factory gap), and a decent set of plug wires and Cap/Rotor (Accel or Borg Warner - Brass contact).
Check out http://www.speedtweaks.net for parts and pricing.

Message: Are Taylor wires any good, would like to get something with color. Is 8mm the standard?
I already have a Flowmaster exhaust. I'll try the tune-up parts now. Does it matter what brand
T-Stat I get? Intake will be next. Thanks for you help. Oh buy the way Great web site.

Yes, Taylor wires are a good choice. Magnecore, MSD, Accel, etc., as long as they're a reputable company, they'll be fine. 8mm preferred as well.
On the tune-up parts, Autolite 3923's and good Cap and Rotor (Brass Contacts) - Borg Warner, Accel, or Napa.
The choice for the T'Stats is the Robert Shaw High-Flow 180 T'stat as well.
