Message: Just wondering why it seems everyone is spending tons of cash on cold air intakes, flashes, pcm's,exhaust, even superchargers. If you look at the cost of a supercharger, around 4 grand, you could purchase a high hp crate motor,I think there is a 395hp mopar crate motor for around 4300.00.I am guessing that it is not as simple as pulling my 360 out,and dropping that motor in.Can someone fill me in on the crate motors, and all the pro's and con's.thanks,Todd

Message: I've asked the same question before, and eveyrone agreed that the Mopar Crate Magnums (except the replacement 5.9s) are geared more towards carburated applications. The cam that Mopar puts in the high horse crate engines would be a tuning nightmare if someone put one in a Dakota. You would need (almost) every available aftermarket computer add-on to make it run properly in the Dakota.
Now if you still want one, just gut the computer, and run a carburator. That seems to be the way to install one of these engines.
