Subject: Do Cal-Tracs Work??? IP: Logged
Message: I just got a new 03 Dakota R/T. I took it from the dealer, straight to the performance shop and had the Kenne Bell Optimizer and Supercharger (6psi) installed. Now I can't keep it on the road. It just spins and starts fish tailing from a dead stop to half throttle, until I let of the gas. Once I find traction, it becomes a rocket and I can floor it. At this point I realize I need some traction bars.I also realize the tires are not the greatest, however it shouldn't take long to shred the GoodYear RSA's with my heavy foot.
Has anyone tried the Cal -Tracs and do they work as good as they say? Are there better traction bar options? Thanks for your inputs.

Message: Traction bars, generally speaking, counter wheel hop. If you're just spinning but not experiencing wheel hop I wouldn't assume they will help your case. There are plenty of guys out there without Caltracs who click off quicker 60 foot times than some of the guys that have them. That's a telltale.
Sounds like you just have more torque than what the stock suspension can possible put to the ground. One of the side effects of the KB kit, I guess.

Message: "graphiteRT" pretty much hit the nail on the head. What the CalTracs did for my R/T was keep it in a straight line at launch. They do help with traction a bit.Which would make sense. They are called traction bars after all. If you go to there website. THere is a full explanation of how they work. But, you will not see the how good they are until you throw on some slicks. But, for street use your best bet is too lay off the gas till full traction is made then ease into it. That is the biggest complaint of the KB that I have heard. To much torque.

Message: I had Cal Tracs on another truck. They do help with traction but ride quality suffers. You'll feel like you are in a one ton truck.
I would take a look at the Roadmaster setup. That should help with traction. And try going to a 275/50-17 next time to get a bigger footprint to the ground.
