Subject: Cat question IP: Logged
Message: I read in several posts about removing the 3rd cat or replacing it with a 3" model and got up under my truck (2000 4.7 Dakota)to take a look.
I don't seem to have any pre-cats??? From the manifolds all the way back to the Y is nothing but pipe. No bumps, no bulges, no swolen areas.....nothing. After the Y, I have what appears to be a standard cat. It is round and about 15" long. (I did find an exhaust leak at the weld where the Y comes together that I need to fix though!)
When you guys talk about three cats are you talking about the 5.2's and 5.9's or is the 4.7 supposed to have these pre cats too?
Anyone have any idea as to why I don't have them? Thanks.

Message: i have a 2001 durango 4.7 4x4.....i looked also and i dont see any pre-cats. They would be right after the manifolds and before the y-pipe right?
If i have pre-cats i would have 02 sensors before and after them....if i have just one main cat then i would have 02 sensors only after the main right?

Message: 2000's varried, not all got precats. Cracked y pipe may be covered under federal emissions warranty, something like 70 or 80 thousand miles, check with dealer.

Message: 2002 QC 4.7 liter. Only ONE cat by the tranny mount. Rated at 235 hp.
Not all newer 4.7 trucks have the pre cats. You have to get under there and look.

Message: I think there are two different emmisions packages for the 4.7L, standard and Caliafornia. Guess which one has more crap on it?
