Message: Just curious,
any one know of a site that offers performance
mods for the new ram hemi? Thinking of going
to the ram if the promotion goes through.
If so i wouldn't be sure if i wanted to make
it supercharged 4x4 with like a 6inch suspension lift or street screamer.
You know the base price is like 21k with the hemi in it?
now you know thats..................

Message: sicminds -- i just bought the Febuary 2003 issue of Truckin magazine. On the cover is a Dodge Ram with the Hemi, in the issue they go over putting 26 inch rims on it and a kenney bell twin screw blowzilla 2200 super charger on it and a kenny bell optimizer 2 managment system. The truck makes 517 ponies with just this on it. Some serious kick @ss power. Check it out its on page 84 of the magazine

Message: That truck is undriveable. It was put on a tailer
and sent back to DC. The drive-by-wire system
won't let you hot rod the engine. You step on
the gas and the computer closes the throttle.

Message: Billy -- If it closes the throttle how did they get to dyno the truck to find out what the numbers were once the set up was done? Am i missing something when i read the article?

Message: Yeah I saw on the Kenne Bell website where they already had the SC available for the Hemi.
Sounds like its gonna be a tuning nightmare.

Message: If you're looking for a 2wd truck the base price is:
$18k - That w/LS 3.92's / 4 wheel disc / 17 inch wheel,,,but that's about it :) - in Lampassas TX that is.

Message: The dyno run-up was very erratic. If DC does
not help the tuners out with this nightmare,
then all this HEMI hype will be for not. Don't
forget this drive-by-wire system is suppose to
keep the truck in a preset driving envelope.
The BMW's have the same system for thier
traction control. But they have a switch to
disarm it, under normal driving conditions.

Message: The aftermarket will figure a way around it for next to nothing I bet. Even if it involves just going to a regular cable. Even pure stock the Hemi deserves hype, if there really is a tuning problem associated with the drive by wire, it's not like the Hemi is the first application of the technology. So what you can't mod Vetts either?

Message: I'd expect some aftermarket companies to step in with mods, but I doubt circumventing the drive by wire will be one of them, at least not for the mainstream vendors.
HUUUUUUGE liability issues for anyone wanting to tread there and forget about any hope of EPA or CARB certification for that type of mod.

Message: Thats why that KB HEMI went back to
Michigan. DC has not release any base
codes after the year 2000. What aftermarket
company offers a post 2000 flash except KB
Optimizer. My guess is that DC will release to
KB a flash for the HEMI to make it driveable.

Message: Billy, the KB hemi project is KB owned, AFAIK. Kinda doubt they shipped it back to Detroit because the support they are getting from DC is extremely limited. This is per Jim Bell as late as last week. I wouldn't be holding my breath on the idea of a flash for that controller either.
The base tables for 2001-2 stuff was released months ago, you just haven't seen it available yet through the usual players.

Message: Hey graphite I was checking out you're 20" wheels and SP9000's. My R/T is twitchy enough with stock 17's. Hows that thing with the ruts and grooves on the freeway? sorry to get off the subject. Back on supposedly 04 R/T Dak's will have the Hemi. That should be murder on rear tires!

Message: You know, lots of people are considering a trade in -- even if it's just dreaming -- for a hemi 1500.
You wonder why there was speculation of getting rid of the Dakota line or downsizing it (physically, turning into M80), there's your answer right there.
