Subject: Gear swap part list..

Message:
I currently have a '01 CC 4.7 with the 3.55 ratio and an open rear in my truck. I want to piece together everything to make it LS3.92's or 4.10's, and pay someone the labor to install it for me.
What all should I be taking to him? I'm thinking just the following:

Gears (ring and pinion)(3.92's or 4.10's)
New Diff. - (going w/stock Dana trac-lok = $157 from www.4wheelparts.com)

Is there anything else I'm missing?

Also I'm considering a new torque converter,,but is there one out there for 4.7L transmissions? (The 45RFE,,,44re,,,whatever it is...) What is a good price for installation of a torque converter?

Sorry for all the questions - transmissions aren't my specialty.
Thanks,

I don't believe there is one other than the stock converter for the 45rfe yet (the 4.7L tranny)

I got my LSD from 4wheelparts.com--good guys cept they shipped it to the wrong place (used friend's credit card, had my info in shipping adress and his in billing adress, yet they shipped it to him) nevertheless, it got to his house real quick :)

Ya,,I've done business w/them before too. Especially the local shop here in Austin.

I figured $157 for the diff. is pretty good price.
Get the gears for around $200
,and I found a guy to do the install for $150,,

Not too shabby from what I can tell.

dont; forget to get a rebuild kit with new
bearings and such. might as well do it now while
you got it all open. should only be 100 more or
so. not even that much at some places.

How are you going to get your speedometer to read correctly after you switch gears, or don't you care? I have a 2002 and the local Dodge dealer told me they can only adjust a few miles per hour to correct for a small change in tire size. A gear change would require changing the entire computer (according to the shop foreman). He also said the transmission would shift at the incorrect times since it is also controlled by the computer.

I do care that the odometer reads correctly,,very much so. However (and I'm not an authority on this,,it's why I'm asking in the first place..), is that I CAN change the gears, and it will STILL read correctly. That the device taking the reading is independant of this change,,and it won't affect the reading.

Now I am totally,,completely open to being wrong here!,,,, I've learned my lesson before,,so if I'm wrong please jump in and let me know.

I believe the tranny will work just fine, as I'm sure it's relative to engine speed - not vehicle speed.

Yes the computer can compensate,,but (again this is just my uneducated preaching here..) the compensation is with-in the OEM tire size range, and this info has to be written to the comp.,,not learned by it.

If someone could share some light on this I would definitely appreciate it!
