According to the service manual, it sais to do not turn the 4.7 flywheels, but to replace them. BULLSHT!! They are tring to make money selling parts!!

I turned mine and after 1000 miles, it is smoother than ever. Alex thought it might be because of an odd shape, convex maybe. If that were true, then why do the 4.7s use the same ole' clutch that every Dak has used since 1994?

The only possible reason I could think of is that it would effect engine balance. But there is no way that could happen either. The 4.7 has tighter tolerances, but not THAT tight.

So the only possible reason is CASH!!!

I had mine turned by a machine shop when I replaced my clutch.

I had no idea that the service manual said that. Its been fine for 10,000 miles.

Cudashoe, Last I checked you had alot of high dollar mods to improve performance right? What is the cost of a flywheel compared to all the other mods? I have never had to resurface a flywheel on a daily driver before just race vechiles. While I can not imagine resurfaceing causeing a problem they must have a reason other then just money. Normaly little material is removed like .oo1" just to clean it up.

The only reason has to be cash. cost wasnt an issue to me. But Why spend twenty times as much when you get the same results?

It is always recommended to resurface flywheels when installing new clutch, every clutch job we do we resurface, daily drivers or not,get the glazing off always. The clutch has no convex shape or the pressure plate so why would the flywheel?
