I was thinking of purchasing a 180 thermo, when it occured to me it may already have it. I think she is running about 190 but it is kind of hard to tell with the stock gauge.

Your stock thermo is 190. Its that temp for emissions, at 190 the hydrocarbons are less. Optimal performance is 180, and the Robertshaw 180 (Autozone part number GT-755, $5) is also a higher flow. The only drawback is you may have to put the 190 back in for smog check. I plan to go to a 'don't pass-don't pay' station to find out when I'm due in 2005.

If you go to the 180, go to a colder plug, like an Autolite 3923 to take full advantage of the system (oh yeah, this is for a 4.7L, I don't know if any of this applies to the other V-8s).
