Subject: Pushrod Wear IP: Logged
Message: When I tighted up on of my roller rockers last week I noticed the pushrods were showing signs of wear only after a week of driving around w/ the new rockers on (that come w/ the teflon guide plates). I know I'll eventually need new heat treated pushrods, but will I have to get longer or shorter pushrods w/ a taller cam to prevent the pushrods from resting against the guidplates like they are.
How long will I be able to drive w/ the stock ones in before too much wear occurs?

Message: Couldn't tell ya-- I run the Crowers, and no wear here. Depending on your config, you should run a longer (or shorter) pushrod-- it all depends on you application. On my setup with Crowers, 6.950" pushrods are recommended (with stock cam)-- On my regrind, with a smaller base circle, I run a 7.000"

Message: I put my roller rockers, guide plate and bushings in about 11 months ago. 6 months ago, I bent a valve, broke 3 guides, replaced two rockers and blew a head gasket. I have a pushrod on the wall in my dorm room right now as a suvioneer. It has severe wear on both sides, and a nice "S" bend in it. Perhaps I could sell it to somebody looking to do the airhat mod :-p
I don't know what the correct lenght of pushrod is, but I suggest getting it fixed. My mistake cost me about $300.

Message: What size rockers are U running w/? Most people run w/ the 1.7's but I only have the 1.6's which are like the factory size.
What mods do you have...think its kinda weird you blew a head gasket from a pushrod length being off by a fraction.
