Subject: Stock LSD IP: Logged
Message: I've tried the search function (just so no one tells me to do a search) but it brought up way too many references, and after a couple pages I quit looking. A while back someone posted a site to get a stock limited slip for 200 dollars, anyone know what site that is? I rreeeeeeeeally need to lose my open differential somewhere..
Thanks!

Message: you might have better luck looking for a 'Dana Trac-Loc' since that's the trade name of the LSD chrysler has been using for years - just make sure you get the right one for your diff size

Message: I got mine from 4wheelparts.com for $150.00. It is the same one that the factory uses made by Dana.

Message: Well that price is even better, still have no credit card though.
I'm gonna find a way--for the LSD install is there anything else needed (like installation kits are to gears?)
A buddy is helping me do it so I can learn how and learn my way around a differential, wanna make sure we have everything we need!

Message: Hey, as long as you're getting into your differential, there's a Motive Gear group buy right now if you're interested. One hell of a steal too..

Message: my only experience with the 'durability' of the dana unit is on the trail, and they seem to hold up pretty good (especially compared to other OEM LSD's), but if you want to use it at the strip for hard 'launches' or intend on doing alot of 'wheeling i would reccoment upgrading to a detroit truetrac LSD unit (they are almost bulletproof - i saw a guy blow up his whole diff on the trail and the truetrac was still in perfect condition) or a locker - if you want to use a locker on the street i would reccomend an air actuated locker - i think ARB makes the best model right now

Message: What is involved in the installation of a Dana Trac Lock? Do you have to remove the ring and pinion? I installed a powertrax no-slip and don't like it at all. It is too rough on the pavement and causes my 5-speed to shift hard. Would the dana be smoother?

Message: the dana unit would be better on the street, since its a gearless LSD (uses torsen style clutch plates, thats what the friction modifier is for) - its installation is identical to the installation of the powertrax since they both replace the innter part of the diff, requiring the removal of the ring and pinion set

Message: FunkyCheese, I would be using it on the track, but have an auto so hard laucnhes aren't a problem, and I only run at the track when I have gotten a good deal of mods so that it might be worth my time to put the stress on my truck--the truck's all I got, so I only run it hard when I know I'll see serious gains, thus only a few times a year.

Message: the stock LSD will be perfectly fine with an auto as long as you dont brakestand it really hard many, many times - and its much more 'streetable'
as far as pure dragstrip performance, the ideal setup is a locker or air actuated locker, with a geared locker (powertrax or detroit truetrac) a close second - although the locker is really bad on the street, and the geared locker can be a bit of a pain too
the air actuated locker can be turned off for street use though, so it is the ideal solution, if not a bit more expensive

Message: 4u2nv; I got the no-slip from Uni-trax in CA. They were the cheapest I could find. The no-slip is excellent off the line. Both wheels hookup great. Turning corners slowly on dry pavement is another thing. You either have to get on the gas and keep the unit locked or go slow with the trans in neutral (5-speed manual) or it locks and unlocks like crazy. I hear the automatics seem to be smoother though.
FunkyCheese; The no-slip does not require the ring and pinnion to be removed. The unit replaces the side gears and the spider gears. The install is pretty simple.
Where can I get installation info on the Dana Trac-loc?
