Subject: Anyone had this problem at elevation???
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 96 Dak sport 4X4 V6. I live in Colorado and head up to the mountains often. About a year ago, my check engine light would sometimes come on when I was up at high elevation (mainly when I was going down hill). Now it comes on every time I head to the hills (still mainly when going down hill), and has recently started stalling when I put the clutch in (still on down hills at elevation). Of course, by the time I get home, the engine light is off, and there are no codes to pull. At lower elevation, it has started hesitating a little at moderate temperatures.

Any advice?? Is the elevation issue and the hesitation related? My thought was to clean the fuel injectors, but I am not an expert. Thanks for any help!!

check engine comes on cause your computer gets an out of range voltage signal from a sensor, or the computer is just plain bad.

I understand why the check engine light is coming on... By the time I can get it checked down at lower elevation, the engine light goes off and the computer checks out ok.

My problem is that it stalls at elevation. My thought was that the only difference between the high and low elevations is the air pressure, which causes less oxygen to be available. So, the computer should adjust to make the fuel mixture richer. Therefore, my thinking was clogged injectors.

Any thoughts....
