what you need to get is boost controler, air intake, xs hole exhaust(down pipe no cat back, their computer(lets you dial up the boost and run up to 660cc injectors, good blow off valve, and worry about bigger turbo, intercooler on tax return day. i seen one run 12`s at a nopi event i went to with buddy of mine. plus i heard their bring a more powerful one with close 280 hp like the over seas STI with 6 sp??? to go against the evo 7 the car has 3 cats on it, do you believe it!!

yeah the STI is going to be about 30k.

have you had any tranny problems? i heard they are pretty weak.

do you visit www.i-club.com? i use to visit that forum just to get ideas on how the performed before i bought one. good information there.

i hear they respond verry well to mods.

only mod is after market air filter. under warranty. no tranny problems, butt most of the people who have or know about the car always stop and talk to you. (cult thing) biggest complaint is grabby clutch? haven`t had it to long still baby to abuse, plus my wife drives it! most people drop the clutch at 4000rpms to get that 0-60 in under 6 seconds and awd doesn`t slip so clutch and tranny take the abuse. got to drive it like you hate, easier said than done when you make the payments.

yeah i know what you mean. i talk to people with them, and they usually ask me if i have one. they give me the most puzzled look when they find out i drive a truck...lol

yeah, i kinda figured that is the main problem with the tranny...boy would i love to rent one!! hehehe. i think i would have to tow it back to the rental company.

got to home boys picture of his truck but can`t get video. tech pisses me off. i got a question for ya did he change the internals on that truck?? 4.7 or 5.9? plus if he did 2 more mods he could easily knock a second off that time. first being a intercooler. second now bear with me is a kit from nitrous express, that sprays the intercooler with either nos or co2 it will cool the intake charge by at least 50degrees from amb temp if not more. turbos loves cold dense air. a grand national intercooler looks to be a good retro fit on the truck. it would make that thing sing happy tunes boost after boost.

Mr, Twice as Slow, first, It's America, you as a L'boy are allowed to forum wherever you want. Second, don't be suprised when you throw a Mongoose into a snakepit. You started it and there are plenty of trucks you are completely unaware about that will finish your truck. Let me give you a little information on some of the incorrect things you are believing. First, Duners truck is a 4.7L, second, it runs stock cast pistons and crack rods, no main studs and bone stock MLS gaskets that survive 14-16 psi. Second, I will let you drive 550 rear wheel horsepower if you come on down to the shop, and then tell me it is not streetable. Idles 750 fine, leaves stoplights like a pussycat and runs 3.55 gears. AC works great and gets 15-16 mpg driving to the races or shows out of state. Now put your foot in it and you'll wreck half of who's driving on the street. Posting all the yack about what you owned in the past doesn't phase me, we are talking about what you are bragging about. If you want a race, against a 4.7 or 360, I'll get them to your area and get the ball rolling for you. Specifically to only chew up your precious huge Lightning, no-one elses, just yours. Even the L'boys I meet and run against have better manners and respect than you. I can wax 90% of the modified lightnings out there, but I don't find myself jumping in there forums and trying to shoot someones work down they have done, by replying the way you did to the original poster. That is stupidity, like assuming while in a Supra Forum, if you want to talk Dakotas, then go ahead, in a manner respectable of the L'boys, otherwise, you are giving a false stereotype to many respectable Lightning owners.

Twice as Nice, I would like to set the record straigt on one thing. With bolt on's the 4.7 Dakota can get 480 HP. Bernd @ speed tweeks has a turbo kit they were testing and it was pumping out 480 HP to the rear wheels. So it is possable and affordable. If we figure $25,000 for my Loaded Quad Cab 4x4 and another $3500-$5000 for the bolt on Turbo kit I will be looking at $28,500-$30,000 for a 4 door 4x4 go fast machine. That seems like a heck of good deal compared to a used truck of close to the same cost that is 2wd and can not carry my wife and three boys! If wee start with a bare bones 2wd, 5spd Dak with 4.7 and buy the same kit we are way ahead. Here goes the best part we do not own a ford and we are not so pathetic that we have to go to a ford site and brag about how fast or dodge is. When you do that it just shows us how unsecure and shallow you are. Surely you can come up with a more sophistacated method of baiting people. You current method is rather transparent. I just figure if you are going to provide entertainment it should at least be high quality.

Well I'll Be......

Well I'm both pleased and disappointed at the same time! I went to the track last night (Firebird Raceway in Phoenix) just to make a couple of passes in the cool night air (70 degrees). I wanted to know how quick or slow it was in "drive it to work" trim. The barometer reading was also the highest I have ever raced with here with a reading of 30.05! Cool, dry air with a high baro reading is perfect for racing! That's not something we get around here in AZ very often. Of course the track wouldn't be prepped very well.... it never is for just friday night T & T.

I decided I would run it with the "street" set-up to see exactly how slow it was with only 7psi of boost and 91 octane pump gas. There is such a HUGE difference in butt-dyno readings between the street setup and the race setup that I knew it must be mid 13s. I couldn't believe how good it did! It went 12.92 @ 109.10 mph!!! That was with a 2.08 60' time. So much for track prep.... (they raked all of the big rocks off?) A "normal" 60' time for this truck is 1.85-1.88 with a best of 1.79.

Now I'm both happy and pissed! It went quicker than I ever imagined it would go - but how quick would it have gone if I had the "race" set-up in it with 14psi of boost and race gas? Hmmmmm, I'm just itching to find out!

PS turbo guy do you have a intercooler on the truck?? seen picture, looks good, but no intercooler? PS i don`t know if you have clearance for a grand national cooler, but i know a guy who has a after market one, for cheap$$$ looks like it might be a good retro fit? it should help your truck stay together longer, and run better! should drop a good half second off your time.

Pic of intercooler......
IP: Logged

Message:
I need to update the pics on that web page. Those pics were taken very shortly after building the system. Since those pics were taken I've built an air/water intercooler system for the truck.

http://members.cox.net/duner/Turbo/DunerTurboCBE.jpg

The intercooler works quite well - regardless of how "Crude" it might appear. (CBE sticker included) It allowed me to run full boost in major heat around here in the summer months. I added the turbo to the truck just in time for last year's Truckin' Nationals event here in Phoenix.... last October. Since then I've put about 18,000 miles on the truck with a good portion of those towing a car trailer.

thats killer, i use mine to tow my car to the track to. if we raced i think it would conditions and reaction times. i have trouble with traction sometimes, when it lets go i`ll burn them 1/3 track. you can try to back peddle it but by then its to late. on the cooler does it have it`s own resevior? or does it run on coolant from the engine? sysclone was like that i changed it to air to air was much better. that cooler is helping the engine stay together and not det! i don`t think a 5.9 would live in those conditions?? 480 hp is phat rwhp or crank ? 12`s is fast as my truck never seen a dakato run that! do you have a blow off valve, or boost control?

The intercooler system uses a 2 gallon reservoir and coolant that's only used for cooling the intercooler. The truck weighs 4283 lbs and makes 115 mph on a decent pass. Depending upon which HP estimator you use - it should be in the neighborhood of 420 hp at the rear wheels. I manually adjust the wastegate for the desired boost levels. I use a Bosch BOV for that nice pshsst sound at every shift. I'm sorry you weren't able to watch the vid..... I'm thinking that with some work on my suspension and the resulting traction that I just might squeek this thing into the 11s before the summer heat comes back.

if you had a boost controler you could change the boost while in the seat at the push of a button, i don`t know if it would work on your system. butt can you blame me when i got 12`s with bolt on`s in a couple of weekends. remember i driver it daily and use it to tow. if i lose in the chevelle i just race in the street cat, and people say damm 12`s with the tow vehicle. just watch out with that boost because i blew a motor up when i got over 22psi lost fuel pressure and leaned system out and bammmm nice blue smoke, i wanted to cry. don`t let your fuel system get out of shape!!
