What is a IAT sensor and what does it do? I have a 91 dak and wondered if i have a IAT sensor? I know i have a Throttle body temp sensor but i dont know if its the same thing. If it is can i relocate it like you can with the IAC sensor and does it give you better or worse gas mileage?

The IAT (Inlet Air Temperature) sensor sends a signal to the pcm telling it the temp of the air going into the engine and the pcm will adjust the air/fuel ratio based on this and other sensors as well. I'm not familiar with a throttle body temp sensor. I don't think you can relocate your IAC sensor (at least, I've never heard of it being done). Relocating the IAT sensor will probably not help mpg since it makes the engine run a little richer.

I think your refering to the IAC solinoid on the back of the TB. It is the Idle Air Control motor that allows the computer to control the idle. Assuming this is what your talking about you can't really move it because of the function it proforms. You most likely have a metalic IAC solinoid since you have an older truck. Something you might think of doing is swapping this out with the plastic one from a newer truck. The matalic one's start reacting slow when they get some age while the new one's don't have any age probloms. I noticed a difference when I changed mine to the newer style.

ok if this helps i have the LA engine which is the throttle body injection model. in my service manual it descirbes the job of the throttle body temperature sensor monitors the tb temp which supposedly is supposed to be the same temp as the fuel which enables the computer to enrichen the fuel mixture for a hot restart. Does this do the same thing as the IAT and if it does can it be moved like the IAT.

its on the same side as the TPS just behind it and it goes into a hole and in the hole is a silicone heat transfer compound. I get the same get great performance when the engine is cold but after awhile it dies. I am aslo haveing alot of problems with throttle response and gas milage see my post BIG PROBLEMS!!!

Dave R are you talking about the air temperature sensor that is in the Air cleaner? this monitores the incoming air but it has a vacum tube attached to it to open the heated air inlet

I see. I should have looked at a manual sooner. According to the Haynes guide the solinoid I was talking about is right next to the throttle body temp sensor you originaly asked about. Your TPS sensor is on the side at the end of the throttle shaft. Do you have an IAT sensor, because i'm thinking that your throttle body temp sensor might be equivilent. Not sure though. You caoul always try it if you feel brave i guess. Sorry I can't be more certain.
