Subject: Home brew idea... IP: Logged
Message: Hey is there any way to secure pvc pipes/elbows from the inside? .. Have a look at this link
http://www.geocities.com/kotadude21/intake.html
This looks good but I was thinking maybe if you sanded down the inside of the openings about an inch in the cut a 2 inch slice of pipe and sanded the outside of that then you'd possibly have a seamless fit. The outside would have to be sanded and possibly filled with some sort of putty but would it work? .. if not is there another way?
thanks!

Message: Why do you want to do this?
The inside of the PVC fittings is smooth, that's why the bent ones have a larger OD to allow the straight ones the keep the same ID thru-out.
I have the 4.7, and used fernco (larger diameter curve, and softer rubber, gives some)on the TB, to a straight PVC, painted, then to a fernco, etc.

Those intakes you are selling on Ebay are impressive. Can you bend that mandral pipe for a 3.9 by chance?
If so, please email me...The wife needs ideas for what to buy me for Christmas this year.

Message: MIke,
I sent you an e-mail.
Pics are on home puter, I;m at work now. The smae basic theme as the others, just no glue, slightly larger diameter, larger radius 90 degree bend, and NO glue at all, very smooth bore thru-out.

Message: and says mustard gas kills so yeah it is bad, and yes PVC emits it. and PVC will start to melt at 150 degrees and that is when it also starts to gas. Here is another fact mustard gas is also known as chlorine gas, and guess what chlorine produces 6 time as much free oxygen as it needs to burn in a fire so when it catches fire, it become a VERY HOT fast moving fire, just like what happens when an NO2 bottle goes off in one. So you die from the gas, then get burned to a small ash lump in 15 seconds. That is why the mfg. of air intakes uses other, safer plastics.

Message: i told you it is a bad idea if used in engine bay. manufactures use black abs plastic instead, 100 dollar homemade intake, on 20000dollar truck do you want to risk it??? use black abs and you should be safe! if not shoot me in the foot.

Message: I have about a 7" pvc from my 'Fernco' 90 degree elbow off my TB, to the stick air box, moded with K&N drop in.
After about a year in use, I had it off putting in my HO cams, looked the same as when I built it, inside and out.
Maybe the pvc right on the TB isn't a good idea, but over the right Valve cover, in place of the accordian tube, I've had no probs yet!
