Subject: B&G Flash

Ok, so I'm going to be getting the B&G Flash... I hear that it's a must to use high octane fuel when you get this mod. But in my durango book, it says to use 87 octane, and in bold letters it says not to use high octane fuel regularly because it would shorten the life of the engine... If I'm wanting to get 200,000 out of of it, then is this flash a bad idea?

Thanks everyone!
Robbie.

Higher Octane is needed with the flash, and is not needed with the stock PCM. So if you use the correct octane with your application it shouldn't shorten the life of your engine.

Think I could get away with using 89? Or should I indefinatly use 91?

I would suggest 93 or better. It's only a few pennies a gallon difference. I have paid $4 a gallon for the last 2 years, less than $2 a gallon is kool. Don't sweat it.

I have the B&G M1 flash and tried the medium grade fuel one time and it was pinging. I think you will have to use premium unless you get a timing retard device.

It's pre detonation. That's when hot spots and hotter plugs cause the gas and air to start burning before the plug fires. Before the piston gets to top most firing point.

Gotcha. I just talked to the guy who does the flashes @ B&G and he said that he suggests I get the regular flash, opposed to the M1 flash. Do you think that it would be a bad decision not to get the M1 Intake and then get the M1 Flash? I'm not trying to have the fastest truck in the world, but I DO want to eat Mustang GT's for breakfast.

The non-M1 flash will work fine, and you can always get the M1 later. I drove for several weeks with the kegger and the M1 flash, no ill effects. Let me just throw that wrench into your gears. lol

The only disadvantage is your going to be turning some higher rpms with the flash and the kegger doesn't peform well at higher rpms. So your engine will loose power at higher rpms for a bit longer period of time now. The M1 works well with the flash, like peanut butter and jelly.

Ok rad... so i'm still going to notice a huge difference in my power w/ the regular flash?... i.e. spinning my tires whenever i want.

On a different note, how much is the M1 w/ install and where can i get it? Maybe I'll spend the extra cash and get both... sounds like it'd be worth it.

Thanks,
Your local idiot.

hey robbie you sound like me lol, i dont know anything either so just look in some archives and read up on everything.thats what i did, even tho im still kinda lost, but yea if your not going to get the m1 mani then get the non m1 flash cuz ull be just shifting with less power at higher rpms cuz the stock mani is restrictive.i think im going to stay witht the stock manifold just cuz i love the low end torque and i havent seen anyone with major significant gains in 1/4 mile with the m1 2bbl,unless someone can prove me wrong,id love to see some comparisons of before and after 1/4 with the stock and m1 manifold.

There has been dyno testing before on the M1 and it showed a peak gain of 56hp at high rpm. You do loose about 5-10 hp off the line but the power comes on strong from 2500-redline.

But once you get all your parts installed (TB, M1, Headers, PCM) you will fly. After I installed my M1 I didn't notice any low end torque loss, nothing but gains. The kegger (stock manifold) has issues with the belly pan gasket blowing out, it's big and bulky, and hard to get around. With the M1 you can actually reach your cap much easier.

Check out: www.krcperformance.com for pics and prices of the manifold.

I picked up .3 in the 1/4 with my 2 brl.M1. 60` times were a hair better too. And it smokes the weenies from a stab doing 10-15 mph. Doesnt feel like any loss of low end. I have the 2 brl with sm. turtle , 52 mm TB and K&N FIPK. It loves to suck down that fresh cool air. Goodbye beer kegger.
