I finally got my Hypertech Power Programmer III installed this morning. I've had it since last week, but had 87 octane in the tank, and the truck was in the body shop until Friday. I had one small problem, but the tech at Hypertech fixed it over the phone (toll-free). I programmed it for the normal Hypertech tuning, raised the speed limiter to 125 mph, set for 93 octane, raised the rev limiter 500 rpm, and corrected the tire size. The truck runs/ idles as smooth as before, but seems to have more power. The engine really sings when you get on it. It is pouring the rain, so I can't give a real good evaluation, due to massive, sideways wheelspin. I am overall pleased to this point. I will let you know more when it dries out. I had the MP PCM, and feel this is equivalent or better in just this short period of time. I will run it 0-60 and 1/4 mile when it dries, and let you know the results.

You had the MP PCM and you feel this is better??? Sure you didn't have a junk MP PCM?

The PPIII only mods the WOT tables, whereas the MP does considerably more. The increased shift points of the MP alone make it the better choice. Granted, if you have a '01 or later your options are limited, but there's no way this thing can offer better performance all around.

graphiteRT,
The Hypertech feels much stronger than the Mopar Performance unit. It may not seem possible, but it does. The Mopar unit I had was not junk. I bought it brand new, and used it for about 3 months. It did work better over the stock pcm, but the hypertech feels better than both of them. The one benefit to the Mopar unit was the 5,400 rpm shift points, since I have the M1. I plan on raising my shift points when I install the Transgo kit, so I would much rather have the hypertech. I guess everyone has there own opinion, but I really like the hypertech so far. By the way, nice truck.

360R/T,
I will keep you posted.

Got mine today and attempted an install. Got a "Calibration Not Found " error with a Hypertech number to call. Had to read off the stock puter's numbers to them and send it back for the correct program. Should get it back within a week or so to try yet again.

I have heard of a few people getting that problem, but thankfully I didn't. I had an error 62 come up with an 800#, and the tech fixed it immediately. It just required pausing between two modes, instead of going one right after another. As far as performance gains: I shaved .6 in the quarter with the programmer. I ran it this morning, in stock and Hypertech mode, with identical weather conditions. I am impressed. I only gained like .3-.4 with the Mopar unit.

Nitro Junkie,
I have talked to you on here a few times before and was wondering how do you like the Turbo City intake. Also, what benefits/ downfalls did you get with the Mopar distributor install. This is the distributor itself, not just a cap, correct? Pretty cool truck man: I like white (mine is white) and graphite better than any of them.

By the way, this is with a full tank of gas. Times may improve with less gas (lighter weight). Truck weighs 5,300# as is. Not easy making this thing go fast. Tires are also at 26/25 psi due to crappy wear. Doesn't really affect traction on my application, but does increase rolling resistance, which may make times slightly slower. Don't know for sure.

Did your shift points increase at all since you upped the rev limiter??? or did you not check the rpms at which it shifted without and with the increased revs??

I too would like to know if your shift points went up at all when you raised the rev limiter? There was a guy on another board that said his shift points moved up about 400 rpms when he moved the rev limiter and installed the 93 octane program. Thanks!

No, the automatic shift points did not change. I read that post, too. He had a Ram, and said that by moving the rev limiter, his shift points changed. Mine didn't. You can manual shift at the desired rpm, however.

The shift points will not go up just because you raise a rev limiter. Reading his post to literally. It was the overall effect of the theprogram that increased the shift points, not the rev limiter. It's probably not so much that his shift points changed, but the engine revs quicker so it seems like the shift points changed. Also with increased hp the shift points might change. It was not from raising the rev limiter as you all seem to beleive.

Understand what you are saying HSKR, it looks like even though the Ram's shift points went up because of the overall programming, we do not have that effect on Troy's machine.

I have a 5.9L 4x4 quad with the crappy detuned pcm (thanks to pining noticed by dealer and then flashed ,now runs like a pig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) If anyone has any good data (dyno numbers, quater mile time improvements) I would really appreciate it. Thanx.

I will have some "hard numbers" tomorrow night. I ran my R/T the night before I installed the programmer and it went a best of 15.1 @ 90 mph (only mods: FIPK, MSD 6A, flowmaster 40). I will let you all know how she does post programmer. BTW I installed the 93 octane program.

Does the hypertech only help you at WOT or does it help you throughout the rev range??? Thanks again guys!!!!

Well the results are in...
Pre programmer-15.148 @ 89.32 2.203 60'
Post programmer-14.922 @ 90.99 2.149 60'
Over all I would have to say I am pleased w/the programmer. I am extremely pleased to be into the 14's!! I think there is some more left especially if I can get the 60' times down(to much wheel spin). I only got to do 2 runs b/c the track was packed. The truck was very consistent on both runs. The previous being a 14.927 @ 90.78. Next time out I am going to remove my tailgate/spare and see if I can get some gain fromt he weight savings. Up next 50mm F&B, hedman headers, and 1.7 RR. Looking to get deep into the 14's before going to an M1.

i think that a PPIII is gonna be my next mod i just like the fact that i have control and can change the speedo for tire sizes. I wouldnt let your tailgate down or take it off it will actually cause more drag. The info on it is around here somewhere do a search. If you put a cover on the back that would help a lot. I think with the other mods you listed you could easily get into the mid 14's, maybe even the low 14's if she'll hook up.... What do you think the PP 3 did as far as low end torque? That is what i would like to increase on my 4x4.

I also think those times are attainable w/slicks. The truck just feels like it has more in it. As far as low end torque it made a noticalbe difference. The truck is just nasty off the line. This is part of the trucks problem to...traction!! Ask Troy, he showed huge gains on his 4X4 and I think he is really pleased with the programmer.

Well-- the weight savings out 'weighs' the drag penalty-- I dropped .15 with just removing the tailgate recently-- on a 12.77 to a 12.62

You limiting factor will be your traction with the weight removed off the rear-- run a set of ET slicks, and it won't be an issue-- and drop another .10 getting a 2.0, 1.95 60' NA.
