Subject: Anybody w/ 3.92/+ in a 4.7 auto? IP: Logged
Message: I am wanting more umph off the line in my dak. and the only way to do so is a gear. I am wanting to keep some top end too and dont want to be killing my motor or tranny. I had talked w/ Marty at KRC, and he told me to go w/ the 4.56's. I thought that seemed to be a little high but he said that I would only be tacking 300 more rpms at 60 mph over stock. So what do you guys think. Any input from people who has installed a gear and what do you think would he me out.
Thanking you in advance,
Justin

Message: I fully intend on putting 3.92's in my truck within the next couple of months. Then I'll start running her at the track. Personally, I could care less about has mileage. I'm building this truck for street/strip performance, and I want to be able to hook up (specifically after I get blown!). I'll have to do the math on the 4.56's, but they seem a bit excessive for me.

Message: I've got a 4.7L auto with 4.10's. It's a little more
gear than the R/T's. It works great off the line
and it's not too bad on the freeways. The more
freeway driving you do the more you won't like
the gearing. 65mph=2750rpm.

Message: 3.92 in '01 CC, 4.7 auto. The 3.92 is plenty of gear unless you are planning on building the truck as primarily a race vehicle. If you are looking for something that's still a reasonable daily driver, the 4.56 is way out of line-- you will be miserable listening to your high-revving engine during freeway driving. With the 3.92s I'm turning about 2300 rpm at 75mph and getting good mileage (16-17.5 highway). Also, I use this truck to pull a small backhoe rig-- 3.92 is plenty of gear for that as well.
Best,
DG

Message: I am in agreement and have the same as DakotaCC.
Although if I could just do something about this damn speed limiter I would be far happier. On the freeway I couldn't even stick with a friggin for ranger splash. I could pull away over 80 no problem.. kill him off the line before we got on.. and I can tell my truck just wants to pull and pull even more but the stupid speed limiter kicks in. there is plenty left.. but they just won't let me use it!
