Subject: HiRes Pix of HO install IP: Logged
Message: For all you guys contemplating the install of HO Cams and Intake I have Hi Res (4.1 MegaPixel) pictures from my install this last weekend. Just e-mail me and I will send them.
For tricks and tips I found a great write up in this forum and the pages from the manual from Speedtweaks.com (I think).
I changed the cams and the intake in about 4 1/2 hours with a freind, didn't work too fast 'cause the TV in the garage was showing Hunt for Red October, and there was cold beer in the fridge.
But all-in-all it was easy. Tricks to include: totally removing the heater lines, totally remove the fuel rail but do not disconect, just flip in over out of the way (bungee cords are great). Loosen the A/C canister and pull it up and slightly bend the A/C line that is in the way on the passenger side.
I made the wedge tool out of plywood from a picture/specs found here, but the drivers side is a little tricky to wedge in place (just hard to get it straight, not much room in there).
Also, note the oreintation of the painted dots on the chain and sprocket in case the chain slips a link after the wedge is installed and the sprocket is taken off the cam (especially the drivers side, its 'more-free' than the passenger side 'cause the absence of the timing wheel). Any questions or need help, just e-mail.

Message: Dr. Dakota,
Not to split hairs here, and I do understand your tips, but:
1.heater lines-just undid the clips and moved them up a bit.
2. fuel rail- didn't remove at all
3. A/C cannister-just pulled out on lower corner as helper slipped valve cover thru, did bend the a/c line some however
4. wedge tool-homemade ala Rod S. outa wood
5. Sprocket- zip tied to chain, couldn't slip
Don't forget the P.S. pump, neede to be rotated toward battery.
Before replacing valve covers-MAKE sure ALL the rockers are in place! They just set on there, under the cam.

Texas Todd- Removing the fuel rail and the heater lines was to aid in the removal/install of the intake manifold. If you don't remove the heater lines I would guess that the intake would be a beatch. I bent the A/C line, again, just to help, didn't bend much, only about a 1/2 inch at its farthest point. The Zip ties work, but once you remove the sprocket from the cam, the zip get loose...either zip it tighter, and cut it as you re-install, or just notice the orientation. I din't move the power steering nor rotate it...I just used a crow foot on the torque wrench and re-calculated my torque numbers (I am a pHd). I agree, check those rockers...when the cam is loose/off they can come off...also check your o-ring/gaskets when putting back together to make sure you didn't slice it during removal!
