Subject: gears vs. bolt-ons ? IP: Logged
Message: I have a '02 R/T and have only added exhaust and air intake. I want more off-idle power and low end take off. Im not concerned with top end speed, just want more "jump". I had an old hot rod mechanic tell me that the best investment for my needs is gears. The r/t's come with 3.55's and he said to get 3.92's.....should I invest my $$ in intake manifold, 50mm TB, cam, ignition, ect. or gears ? Also is the PCM flash worth the money. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea what Im doing.

Message: i dont know who your hot rod mechanic is or anything but all Dak R/T's come with 3.92's out back. that's enough gear for you to do what ever you want especially is your on tha street all the time and see little track exposure. stick with the bolt-ons. Getting your PCM flashed is a very good idea. some head work, cam, rockers, intake manifold, throttle body, and aftermarket ignition would be a good start.

Message: All R/T's come with 3.92 gears from the factory. I've done a bunch of mods to my R/T and I gotta tell ya one of the best was to jump to 4.56 gears. I highly recommend them!!
You will not loose enough top end to be a problem. (I've had mine up to 135 MPH with the 4.56 gears...got the video to proove it!) Mileage may suffer slightly for highway driving, but actually improves for city driving.
I just put in the Mopar 2400 stall converter and ATI shift kit and they really work well with the gears.

Message: i was going to say go with the 4.56's after reading on how many RT'ers like them. they are perfect for street and freeway driving, because of the tall gears in the auto tranny
-Eric Injection is nice, but i'd rather be blown. 5.2L, 5speed. Powerdyne SC, 50mm TB, 2bbl M-1, 1.7RR's, MSD 6BTM, ciramic JBA headers, 3" carsound cat, dumped gibson
