Subject: More 4.7L times at track IP: Logged
Message: Last night I went to houston raceway, intended to meet up with some more dakota guys but had trouble getting ahold of them for a little while, and started having too much fun running down the track, so I never actually met with them.
Not that that's what you're here to read
First run:
19.662@66.12
No that isn't a typo, it was my first time at the track (much less ON one) and it's a lot different than a street, I have open diff. and was spinning and didn't even know it (got a 2.7 60' time so the truck was still moving a pretty good bit) and once I realized I had a trail of white smoke behind me halfway down the track I knew it was a lost cause so just drove to the end like I would on the freeway, and scrapped this run, but figured you would get a good laugh out of it :)
Next ran 15.802@82.25
Did a burnout this time, and avoided the water in the beginning. Made a world of difference.
THen 15.509@86.90
My best run of the night, had a perfect launch, hooked up almost instantly.
Last was 15.732@85.69
My friend convinced me to try running with the heater on, didn't help.
My truck is a 4.7L CC sport, 3.55 open diff. stock everything except for a 360airintakez intake setup, on some lil crappy Kumho P215's in the rear, and all these runs were with tailgate off, but spare still on, clutch fan on, etc etc. Only lost weight was tailgate, which isn't that much really.

Message: the AC will cool down your truck, not the heater. with the AC on, the elec fan is blowing.

Message: If you turn on the heater on down the return road and back to staging lanes it will act as a radiator to take more heat out of the motor. During the run the heat/air should be off to reduce parasitic drag.

Message: Well we had a good hour between runs, it was pretty busy there, so the truck cooled between runs pretty well, I had made my 15.5 and was damn happy for a 99% stock 4.7, so I just wanted to experiment I bit on that last one.

Message: Recently at Maryland International Raceway (Budds Creek) I ran a best of 15.12 @ 89.
Pretty pleased overall. Traction wasn't that great though.
Totally stock, no mods. Weight including myself was 3,930. Spare in place, along with trailer hitch. I did drop the tailgate down, but was still in place.
I have a '01 4x2 reg cab Sport Plus (16" wheels),
4.7L, 5 spd, 3.92LS.
It was pretty cool to be able to bark the tires going into 3rd gear.
I think that I will practice some more and possibly get into the 14's with a better driving technique.

Message: I too ran my dak. this weekend. MY TRUCK: 02 r/c 4.7 5sp 3.92lsd 2wd. MODS: flowmaster delta, homebrew intake, tps @.74. My first run on goodyear LS (stock 16" tires) was a 14.61 @ 92.8. I then bolted on the Hoosiers and ran a 14.2 @ 93.9, with plenty of 14.3s and 14.4s to back it up. Im just surprised i got a tranny and rear end left after the 4000rpm launches with slicks !!! by the way my 60ft times with the slicks was 1.79

Message: landx4.7, got a time slip? Those times are amazing, and being able to hook up in 45deg weather is the best of both worlds, but they're still sounding like they're out of Ripleys :-)
No offence meant, just pretty amazing times.

Message: Not a good idea to run the A/C or heater before your about to go out to the track...it leaves condensation on the track after you turn it off and some of the other track guys might get a little pissed. Happened to my buddy once and they said if he does that again he'll be banned for that night.

Message: I agree with MikeD. I am an old drag racer from way back.Dripping and leaking cars or trucks SUCK. I have seen blown motors and some really close calls from leaks. Be kind to the guy that has to share the track with you and DON'T DRIP.

Message: I've heard to run the heater, because it takes heat off the engine.
MikeD, didn't you have a genI? When did you get an R/T? I'm thinking about getting personalized license plates: NOTANRT 'cause 4.7s rule!
R/Trottmann (though I should have gotten an R/T with the whole initials thing)
