Okay, so it was a mid-80's 944, but I still beat it by .12 seconds in the quarter.
Apparently the 4.7 takes a really long time to break in. Last fall with 12,000 miles I ran a 16.9 at 80 mph. Tonight with 18,700 miles I ran a 16.4 at 81.7 mph. No changes to the truck since that last run in the fall. Figuring in the weight of the truck with me in it, that equates to 214 rear wheel hp according to the excel spreadsheet from Bernd's site. Not bad for a CA version with only 2 mods.

Air Force kicks it.........we didn't need you to fight that last big conflict now did we? And going back to the gulf, the only reason it took you only 100hrs, b/c we took out the communications in the first 10mins, destroyed the airfields in the first day and got rid of the other bases in the next couple of days......
But we all fight for the same cause so I can't make fun of you too much. It's all good!

I think I figured out why my truck was so much faster the other night than it was last fall.
In addition to the truck being more loosened-up from more miles, I have been running 89 octane gas due to pinging on 87. I haven't gotten around to trying the cooler Autolite plugs yet to see if that kills the ping. If I remember correctly, I don't think I was using 89 when I did the run last fall. That might account for a few of the extra ponies present on Thursday night.
By the way, I'll just stay out of this Army vs Air Force thing. Being in command of a small Army unit located on an Air Force Base, it's in my best interest to keep my mouth shut. But truth be told, I like the Air Force...I get free stuff from them all the time.

You all are a bunch of amateurs!! If you want to hear some good branch bashing you should come to my office. I am an Army recruiter and we have all of the branches in the same office building (except Coast Guard, but they don't really count!)
It is almost like a scene out of West-Side Story!

Hey Dan,
I'll take those Coast Guard professionals over most army 'kid' aviators any day of the week. You might find this hard to swallow, but those Coastie college grads generally demonstrate a lot more maturity in the cockpit than the majority of high school grads you're so fond of putting in the cockpit of high performance aircraft - an observation shared by many of us who've been doing this a LOT longer than you've been in the army...

Anybody that puts anybody down for working in any service is a total pansy. We all work or worked for the same freedom and the same country. I love the United States but I dont like the pricks that speak about some service being better. They all have different jobs and duties...........to protects our people. My Porsche would kick your ass. Regards.
